A sabbatical or difference in Pay Leave (Leave) can be
an exciting opportunity to pursue your long-term academic
goals in a more focused manner. The application and approval
process has been carefully designed to assure everyone has
a common understanding of Leave conditions and expectations.
As such, it is important that you carefully study the Leave
policy and thoroughly complete the Leave Application.
Make certain you clearly and realistically convey the benefits
the University will realize as a result of your Leave. Since
the Leave is being granted based on represented benefits and
you will be paid while absent, the State must realize a tangible
benefit from your active employment. Upon return from Leave,
it will be important that documentation of a satisfactory
level of benefit can be provided.
Remember, you are still an active employee while on Leave.
As such you are expected to continue to adhere to University
policies, including the requirement to obtain written approval
from the President prior to accepting any outside employment.
The Leave Application will ask if there may be any potential
for a conflict of interest. It is important to carefully consider
what activities you will be pursuing and how they could conflict
with your employment obligations. Remember, as an active employee,
the University has a right to share in intellectual property
you may develop while on Leave. Take time to understand applicable
policies and when in doubt seek written clarification and
approval from the appropriate authority.
Lastly, if you are granted a Leave, you will be required
to complete a Promissory Note as a condition of the Leave.
Please carefully read the Promissory Note and make certain
you clearly understand the conditions of the Leave salary
repayment.
Thank you for your service and best wishes for all of your
endeavors. |
