Emergencies
All faculty should know the following emergency information and
are encouraged to relay this information to their students at the
start of the semester:
- Identify the location of fire alarm pull stations.
- Review both location and content of evacuation maps including
an outside meeting area for your department or class.
Instruct students to identify at least two exits from their
location in the building.
- Review emergency procedures in case of fire, medical emergency,
hazardous materials release, and earthquake. Invite any students
with special needs to contact you about specific requirements
in case of an emergency and make appropriate arrangements.
- Identify the location of the nearest phone to use in case of
an emergency.
Use any campus telephone to dial 911 for emergencies requiring
police, fire or medical assistance. Your call will be answered by
the university police dispatcher. Remain calm, explain the problem
and give the location of the emergency. Every building on campus has
posted emergency evacuation plan procedures. Do not use the elevators,
but do try to alert others as you quickly evacuate the building and
area. The Public Safety Department has periodic emergency evacuation
drills to keep employees prepared in case of an emergency. The Public
Safety Department is located in T-1200, telephone extension 2515.
Environmental Health and Instructional Safety (EH&IS) is
located in T-14, telephone extension 7233.

Personal
Safety
CSUF is a safe place to work.
However, we should always be aware of suspicious behavior
and avoid situations which set us up as "victims."
Notify University police (911) as soon as you notice persons
who display threatening behavior or unwanted advances toward you
or others. Use the
University Police escort service to your car, or use a "buddy system"
at night or on weekends when few people are on campus.

Student
Safety
Awareness of general safety practices, such as emergency evacuation
and fire and earthquake safety are becoming an integrated part of
a student's learning experience.
Specific supplemental safety instruction for students in
the sciences, visual arts, theatre, engineering and other disciplines
that use hazardous materials or equipment are given via a website
at http://riso.fullerton.edu/studentsafety.htm.
Faculty are required to present safety information to their
students. See the website
for details. (Refer
to the section in this Handbook entitled "Instruction and Curriculum"
for information concerning student safety on academic field trips,
student safety abroad, and safety as it relates to internships and
experienced-based learning.)

Violence
In The Workplace
Acts of violence and threats of violence severely impact the free
exchange of ideas intrinsic to higher education and the the well-being
of the campus community members.
The University has established a policy of zero tolerance
for violence against members of the university community.
Acts of violence and threats of violence towards persons
or property will not be tolerated.
This policy applies to all faculty, staff, students and visitors
to the university.
It is crucial that you report any violence--verbal or physical--to
your Chair, Administrator, Vice President, University Police or
Human Resources. Don't ignore it. If
the person actually commits the violence, the consequences can be
devastating. You should
not fear repercussions from reporting any incident.
Information concerning warning signs, prevention of workplace
violence, and guidelines for handling a potentially violent confrontation
are contained in Directive Number Eight, University Policy Regarding
Violence in the Workplace.

Parking for faculty is provided on campus for a fee that is established
by the Trustees of the CSU and subject to the collective bargaining
process. Parking lot decals may be purchased for fixed academic
terms, or for permanent faculty/staff, a permanent decal may be
obtained through a payroll deduction. Faculty may also elect to
use one of the campus coin lots in lieu of purchasing a decal. Parking
areas limited to faculty and staff are identified as "Faculty/Staff
Only" lots. Student, visitor, guest, and daily permits are not valid
in these areas.
Part-time faculty on the campus one or two days a week may purchase
a decal at a reduced rate that allows them to park only on the days
for which the permit is purchased. Daily permits are also available
during the day at permit machines located in Lots A or G or for
evening instructors after 4:00 p.m. at Lots B, D, E West or I. Permits
purchased in one daily permit lot are valid in any other lot designated
for daily permit parking on that same day only.
