It is with both a great deal of
pride in the continuous accomplishments of the faculty at Cal State
Fullerton and a view to the promise of the future that I greet you
and all readers of this faculty handbook.
For forty years, Fullerton faculty have contributed to the
increasing quality of the university.
Their vital contributions have helped to make California
State University, Fullerton a strong leader within higher education.
The future offers us new opportunities and challenges to
continue our mission of combining the best of teaching excellence
and research.
This important mission for us at Cal State Fullerton
requires us to continuously innovate and evaluate how we engage
our students and each other, how we implement technology in our
classrooms and define the learning environment on campus, and how
we establish and achieve the scholarly and creative goals for ourselves
as individuals, within our departments, divisions, and colleges,
and across the university.
Maintaining a vital and creative faculty is a goal we all
share and one which I support you fully in achieving.
To assist both new and seasoned faculty with this process
and to assist with the integration of new faculty into the campus
community, our faculty colleagues from across campus have compiled
this up-to-date handbook which I hope will serve you well as a source
of valuable information and contribute to the vitality and creativity
of all our faculty.
This handbook is a practical guide which outlines
the logistical, administrative, professional, and developmental
resources available to CSUF faculty.
Some of the many topics included here are the organization
of the university, its system of governance, guidelines on benefits,
parking passes, expectations of faculty and professional development,
office hours and office assignments, and much more. My sincere thanks are extended to the members of the Faculty
Affairs Committee and the office of Faculty Affairs and Records
for all of their work reviewing and drafting this edition as well
as all those who have contributed to its revision over the years.
This comprehensive, high-quality handbook should prove very
useful to you whether you are beginning or continuing your career
as a member of the Cal State Fullerton faculty.
