Latisha Boyd ′04
graduates with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. Latisha has held several key leadership positions including serving as the student representative for the Guardian Scholars Advisory Board. Latisha is currently working as a cadet for the Anaheim Police Department. She is one step closer to her dream of becoming a homicide detective as she enters a new phase in her life as a law enforcement officer after graduation. Latisha will enter graduate school in the fall of 2004 at Cal State Long Beach where she will pursue her master's in criminal justice.

Valerie Gamez ′04
will graduate with a bachelor's degree in psychology. Throughout her years in the Guardian Scholars Program, Valerie has made significant contributions through her personal connections to the students and community supporters. She has taken on several leadership positions while at Cal State Fullerton including organizing and hosting the first ever Guardian Scholars Thanksgiving Dinner. She also held a position on the Titan Student Union Governing Board. As a public information officer with the Center for Demographic Research, Valerie was instrumental in disseminating various data and reports to public and private entities throughout Orange County. Valerie hopes to obtain her master's degree in the field of psychology and use her education to work in the non-profit sector.

Jayette Hightower ′04
is graduating with a B.A. in communicative disorders. She will also be receiving her American Sign Language certificate and her Speech and Language Pathologist Assistance license through the state of California. For 4 years, she has been a peer mentor/ counselor for the Orangewood Children’s Foundation. Jayette is planning on attending Washington State University where she will be earning her M.S. as a teacher of deaf students. Her goals are to become a therapeutic agent of change in the deaf community. She thanks everyone who has encouraged her and appreciates their support.

Angela Leon ′04
graduates with a bachelor of arts in psychology and human services. She is a member of the Honour Key Society and has been recognized on the National Dean’s list for outstanding academic achievement. As a Ronald E. McNair Scholar, Angela is working with Associate Vice President Howard Wang on a questionnaire that uses non cognitive variables to predict achievement. Angela is also a member of California Youth Connection, Human Services Student Association and Psychology Department Student Association. Angela will graduate cum laude and plans on obtaining a Ph.D. in clinical psychology.

Susan Kamiunten Lewis ′04
graduates with a bachelor of arts in psychology with an emphasis in business management. As a Ronald E. McNair Scholar, Susan conducted undergraduate research on the predictive correlations of emotional intelligence and transformational leadership within organizations. For the past year, she has been the Vice President of the Rotaract International Club of CSUF which is a community service based organization that serves to better local and international communities. She is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma and Psi Chi Honor Societies. She graduates with honors, May 2004, after beating the odds as a former foster youth, being a biracial, first generation, single parent woman. She plans to go into business management after graduating and eventually plans on going to graduate school to obtain her Ph.D. or Psy.D.

Candace Newman ′04
graduates with a bachelor's degree in communications and a minor in women's studies. As a Cal State Fullerton student she committed herself to several student organizations and projects within the community. Her level of involvement within these organizations went well beyond basic membership, addressing the needs of low-income students in reach of a higher education. Candace is a leader and a role model. She plans to obtain a master's degree in communications and work to serve her community.
