2005 National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) Honors Semester

Message posted on Wednesday the 15th of September 2004
Theme: Livable Spaces in Natural Places
Location: Seattle
Dates: May 23 ? August 12, 2005
Co-Sponsors: NCHC and Seattle University
Application Deadlines: January 10, 2005 (early admission); February 1, 2005 (regular admission)

Honors Semesters are offered regularly to allow honor students from throughout the United State to gather for learning experiences away from their own campus. NCHC semesters offer a full load of transferable college credit and combine field studies, research, internships, seminars and a carefully planned living-learning environment that fully exploits the resources of the semester's locale.

Located between the Cascade Mountains and Puget Sound, Seattle is a model of the new American city. Integrating natural beauty with urban growth has made Seattle a living laboratory for designing human communities. Using a set of interdisciplinary and interconnected explorations, students in this Semester will collaborate on shaping communities within city neighborhoods.

Student teams will develop projects for preservation and planning in Seattle's Chinatown/International District. They will acquire an understanding of the historical process by which a "city of bungalows" seeking to remain small became the "city of tomorrow" that now routinely attracts international attention.

For more information, visit the Seattle Honors Semester website: http://www.nchchonors.org/Semesters/Seattle/

Wayne Hobson in the CSUF Honors Office has a brochure and copy of the application form. Stop by to ask about the Seattle Honors Semester.

HACU National Internship Program

Message posted on Tuesday the 30th of November 2004
The HACU National Internship Program (HNIP) works with universities, federal agencies and corporations to recruit well-qualified and motivated students for paid internship opportunities during the  spring and summer semesters.  Currently HNIP is accepting applications for the 2005 spring and summer sessions. The program dates are as follows:

Spring: January 13 - April 30, 2005
Summer: June 3 - August 13, 2005

The fifteen-week session allows college students to experience the diversity of careers that exist in the federal sector and provides a quality professional work experience that allows students to make more educated career choices.

HACU matches each student's skills and background with the needs of the internship placements. The result is an internship assignment that directly relates to the student's career goals and allows the placement to further their mission. Many of these internships have led to permanent job opportunities for students. Intern stipends are based on academic level at the time of application.

Interns are paid as follows:

     Sophomore/Junior - $420 per week ($10.50 per hour)
Senior - $450 per week  ($11.25 per hour)
     LAW/Graduate students - $520 per week ($13.00 per hour)
