Winter Closing Information

December 5, 2016 by Luke Higgott, Social Media & Marketing Assistant

Hello, Titans! We hope you've had a successful and enjoyable time living with us this semester. Please read on for some important information regarding checking out of your room for Winter Recess. This information applies to residents who will continue living in Student Housing during the spring and those leaving us as well.

As a gentle reminder, you could risk a $150 improper check-out fee if you don't follow these directions, so please read carefully and ask any of our staff if you have questions.

residence Hall Residents

For those of you living in Elm, Fig, Holly, Juniper, and Pine: these buildings will close on Friday, December 16 at 10 p.m.

During this closure, you will not be able to access your room, so please remember to pack everything you may need over the break. You are not required to completely clear out your room unless you won't be returning in January. That being said, don't leave anything perishable behind. If you have a mini fridge or MicroFridge in your room, please make sure you remove any food that will spoil over the break.

We recommend you take any valuables with you when you leave. If you have a bike, you may store it in your room during the winter closure.

Here's a couple things to do in order to avoid that $150 late check-out fee:

  • Throw away all perishable items and take all trash to an outdoor dumpster.
  • Close your windows. If you live on the first floor, please shut your blinds as well.
  • Remove all your possessions from your Active or Passive rooms.
  • Take down your holiday decorations and unplug any electronic devices except refrigerators.
  • If you can, see your Resident Advisor before you leave so they can check your room.

Our staff will be checking all the Residence Hall rooms during the weekend of the December 16-18 to check for any check-out issues or policy violations. If they find any, you could be required to go through our conduct process when you return in January.

The earliest date that Residence Hall residents can return is Thursday, January 19 at 9 a.m.

Apartments Residents

For those of you living in any of the Single or Double Apartments: rejoice! You are allowed to stay in your apartment over Winter Break. Please be aware that the Gastronome will be closed for Winter Recess from Friday, December 17 and will reopen on Thursday, January 19.

If you do plan on leaving for an extended period of time during Winter Recess, please make sure you clean your kitchen and bathroom before you leave and remove any perishable items from your fridge or pantry that may spoil during the break. Make sure your patio or balcony doors are locked and double-check that your stove and oven are turned off.

If you are staying, please note that even though the Residence Halls are closed, we will still have a smaller duty team of Resident Advisors on call each night and over weekends.
