The
Application Process
When
should I start looking into housing options?
We urge you to begin looking into on campus housing options
the moment you think you want to attend CSUF. You can use our
online housing application via this Web site at www.fullerton.edu/housing.
Or, you can call (714) 278-2168 to request
an application. Return it to us as soon as possible.
Do
I have to be admitted to CSUF to apply for housing?
No. You may apply for housing anytime. However, you must be
admitted to the university in order to receive a License Agreement
(a housing offer). You do not have to inform the housing office
once you've been admitted; the Admissions & Records Department
will take care of that.
Is
there an application fee?
No, the application process is free.
Do
I have to send a deposit with my housing application?
No. A deposit is only required once you receive a housing offer.
I
heard freshmen are guaranteed housing.
That is not true. Spaces are very limited, so we CANNOT guarantee
you a room as we only have 800 bedspaces on a campus of 30,000.
The freshman class is generally more than 4000 people.
When
will I know if I have housing?
The first round of housing offers is generally sent out by May
1st to students on the waiting list WHO HAVE BEEN ADMITTED TO
THE UNIVERSITY. If we are not able to offer housing to everyone
on the waiting list and if we do not fill all available spaces
after this initial round of offers, additional offers will be
sent incrementally on a first come first served basis based
on the date of housing application.
The License Agreement (Contract…Housing
Offer)
When
should I turn in my License Agreement?
The housing office mails out slightly more License Agreements
(housing offers) than we can accommodate in order to ensure
100% occupancy, so read, sign and mail your contract as soon
as possible.
How
much does it cost to live in the residence halls?
Housing fees for the 2007-2008 academic year, double occupancy
space (a shared bedroom in a 3 bedroom apartment) was $5,167.00;
a bedspace in a 4 bedroom single occupancy apartment was $6,898.00,
which includes a $100 security deposit that is refundable once
a resident moves out.
Do
I have to pay for it all at once or in installments?
Either. You can pay your rent in one, two or five installments.
Details will be included in your contract packet. Minimum initial
payment is generally $850.00 which must be paid from your personal
funds because Financial Aid is not available until the beginning
of the academic year
Will
I receive bills in the mail for my housing payments?
No. It is the resident’s responsibility to ensure that
payments are made on or before the due dates listed in the contract.
Can
I cancel my License Agreement before I move in?
You may cancel a reservation for a space in the residence halls
by giving written notice to the housing office at least 30 days
prior to the beginning of the occupancy period. If you petition
to cancel with less than 30 days notice or after the beginning
of the occupancy period, you must meet the criteria outlined
in the Terms and Conditions of the Housing License Agreement.
Room
and Roommate Assignments
How
many people live in a suite?
Six people reside in the three-bedroom apartments -- that's
two per bedroom. Four people occupy the four-bedroom apartments
-- only one per bedroom.
How
can I get a single bedroom?
First priority for the four-bedroom apartments is given to students
with previous residence hall experience, either at CSUF or another
college or university. Next priority goes to juniors and seniors.
Are
the suites co-ed?
No. The suites are single-sex, although the floors are co-ed.
May
I request to live with a specific person?
When you receive your License Agreement, you'll also receive
a roommate request/selection card. You may use the card to request
a person (of your same gender) to be your roommate. That person
must also ask to live with you, or else you likely won't be
placed together.
What
if I don't know who I want to live with? How will you select
my suitemates?
Answer the questions on the roommate request/selection card
and list your interests, hobbies and needs. If you know the
kinds of characteristics you'd like a roommate to have, list
them, too. We will try to match you with people of similar interests.
When
will I find out which room I'm in and who my roommate and suitemates
are?
You will receive this information and your keys when you move
in.
When
do I move in?
The exact move-in date will be given to you as part of your
contract packet. Generally, move-in takes place the week before
classes begin.
Life
in the Halls
Is
there a meal plan?
No. Each apartment has a kitchen that is equipped with a stove,
refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher. Students are responsible
for preparing their own meals.
Do
I need a special parking permit?
No, all students use the same university parking decal, which
is good for any student parking lot.
Can
I have overnight guests?
Yes, but the guests must be of the same sex as the host or hostess.
Guests may not stay more than two nights during a two-week period
without approval from the Director of Housing and Residence
Life.
Is
alcohol allowed in the residence halls?
Students who are at least 21 years old may drink in the privacy
of their own suite as long as EVERYONE in the suite is 21 years
old or older.
Is
smoking allowed?
You may only smoke outside. Smoking is prohibited inside any
university facility -- including your suite.
Can
I have a pet?
Fish are permitted in bowls or aquariums that hold no more than
5 gallons of water. No other pet, animal, bird, snake, mouse,
etc. is allowed. FISH ONLY.
Who
cleans up the rooms?
You are responsible for keeping your suite clean. There are
University provided housekeeping services performed in the suites.
Housekeeping service is provided only in the public restrooms,
Multipurpose Room, study lounges, TV room and laundry. Even
though this service is provided, it is expected that students
will clean up and pick up their own "messes."
Who
takes care of maintenance and repairs?
All maintenance and repairs in suites and public areas are to
be handled by the maintenance staff. You should report all problems
on a Maintenance Request Form available at the housing office.
Most requests are handled within 48 hours of receipt of the
request by our maintenance staff. If the problem cannot be fixed
immediately, you will be notified as to the status of the repair.
