Scholarships

The list of Scholarships and Awards is now available at the Office of Financial Aid website.

Some scholarships and awards have financial need listed as one of the criteria. Typically, these awards require applicants to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to demonstrate proof of financial need. Since international students are not eligible to receive federal student aid,they cannot submit the FAFSA form. However, to ensure that all international students have an equal opportunity to apply for scholarships and awards, our office has worked in collaboration with the Office of Financial Aid to provide a financial need form specifically for international students who wish to apply for scholarships and awards based on financial need.

You are therefore invited to apply for scholarships and awards listed. Please read each scholarship and award very carefully for the list of qualifying criteria as well as the supporting documents required. Every student must submit the 2009-2010 Scholarship & Award Application found on the above-referenced website

For International Students Only: if the award/scholarship indicates that you must submit a FAFSA form, you need to submit both the International Student Scholarship Application and Financial Disclosure Form.

We encourage all international students to apply for these awards and scholarships. Please take note of the different deadlines for each award/scholarship. Good luck with your applications.

International Understanding Award

This award is funded by the Emil Grieshaber Memorial Fund to recognize personal contributions to increase international understanding through leadership activities on campus with clubs and university sponsored programs. The selection process may include an interview with selection committee. The recipient is recognized at the University Honors Convocation.

Open to	This award is open to graduating students who are eligible to participate in Commencement. Criteria: Academic performance, Contributions to increase international understanding.
Amount	$1000 and plaque

Priscilla Oaks Emerging Leader's Award

This scholarship was named for Priscilla Oaks in her memory, to encourage and support emerging student leaders. These emerging leaders have been involved at Cal State Fullerton and/or in the greater community and have emphasized their support of global understanding and/or support of a multicultural environment. Dr. Oaks was a professor of English at Cal State Fullerton who was killed in a tragic auto accident in mid-1980. Dr. Oaks dedicated her life to supporting Cal State Fullerton's very early efforts to build students' multicultural and global leadership skills. The recipient will recieve recognition at the Office of International Education and Exchange recognition in May.

Open to	This scholarship is open to continuing students who are pursuing an undergraduate or a graduate degree.

Criteria	2.5 GPA undergraduate, 3.3 GPA graduate, Leadership Activities, Quality of Essay
Application procedure	Complete a separate application available in the Dean of Students Office, TSU-235 (preferred typed) Prepare a 200-word (minimum) typed essay that addresses the following: "How can I make a difference as a global/multicultural leader?" Obtain a letter of reference from an individual who is knowledgeable about your contribution Submit application materials to the Dean of Students Office, TSU-235 Attend the University Leadership Conference.

Professor & Mrs. Ting K. Pan Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Emeritus Professor Dorothy Pan Wong to assist students who have overcome financial or language challenges, particularly students who are the first in their family to attend college. Preference may be given to international visa students or first generation immigrants.

Open to	This scholarship is open to continuing undergraduate or graduate students majoring in one of the following subjects: math, engineering, nursing, computer science or a physical science.
Amount	One or more scholarships at a minimum of $1,000 a maximum of $2,000
Application Deadline	March 14
Criteria	3.0 GPA, Financial need.
Application Procedure	Complete the SAapplication, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification Write a statement that describes your financial situation and how you will use these funds Submit "Student Financial Disclosure" form available at International Education and Exchange UH-244 Submit application to International Education and Exchange, UH-244, (657) 278-2787.

World Citizen Award

This scholarship is created and funded by the North Orange County International Friendship Council, a community volunteer organization providing assistance and hospitality to international students attending Cal State Fullerton. The recipient is recognized at the annual International Student Commencement Celebration. Selection process may include an interview with selection committee.

Criteria	Demonstrated involvement, on and off campus, in building international understanding.
Application Procedure:	Complete the World Citizen Award application, available in the IEE Office Obtain two letters of recommendation, one of which should be from a member of the community Submit application materials to UH-244.

Phi Beta Delta Student Scholarship Internationalist Awards

This award was established by Phi Beta Delta to recognize scholastic achievement and outstanding leadership in the area of international studies, intercultural studies or campus international activities.

Open to	This award is open to undergraduates and graduates who are new or continuing members of Phi Beta Delta, Honor Society for International Scholars.

Criteria:	Scholastic achievement, Outstanding leadership, Involvement with international education activities
Application Procedure	Complete the Phi Beta Delta scholarship materials, available after March 1 at IEE office Prepare an essay addressing your qualifications for the award Obtain a minimum of two faculty or staff letters of recommendation Submit all application materials to UH-244.

Study Abroad, Ambassadors of International Education Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by the Office of International Education & Exchange. A condition or requirement, if selected as a recipient, is to agree to assist the CSUF Study Abroad Office in promoting study abroad programs following your return. The Scholarship Selection Committee will award the scholarship during the spring semester for use in the following semester.

Open to	This scholarship is open to CSUF full-time undergraduate and graduate degree seeking students who have been accepted to a study abroad program.
Amount	$750
Application Deadline	Winter and Spring Semester: October 15 Summer, Fall, and Academic Year: March 15
Criteria	2.75 GPA, Financial need.
Application Procedure	Complete the Ambassadors of International Education Scholarship application, available at www.fullerton.edu/studyabroad Write a 500-word essay explaining (1) How Study Abroad will help you achieve academic, professional, and personal goals, (2) The types of classes you intend to take while abroad Obtain two letters of reference from faculty members Consult with a study abroad advisor to construct a budget Provide photocopy of your study abroad program budget If you receive financial aid, provide a photocopy of your Student Aid Report. Submit all materials to UH-244, (657) 278- 2787 by 4:00 P.M. on the deadline date

Dr. Donald S. Castro Memorial Study Abroad Scholarship

The International Leadership scholarship is named for Dr. Donald S. Castro, in his memory, to support the efforts of students who are in need of financial assistance. He was a passionate and compassionate man who championed human rights and equal opportunities for the disadvantaged. He served as a leading advocate of underrepresented students and assisted them in obtaining their college degrees and fulfilling their educational dreams. This scholarship honors Dr. Castro's passion for helping those who may not otherwise be able to attend college as well as his love of travel, exploration and history. The applicant must meet eligibility requirements and have been accepted into a study abroad program approved by the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs.

Open to	This scholarship is open to continuing students who are pursuing an undergraduate or a graduate degree.

Criteria	Full-time, Financial need, Good academic standing, Acceptance into a study abroad program, Quality of recommendation letters, Active involvement in the community and/or campus organizations.
Application Procedure	Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification Complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or have one on-file for establishing financial need Provide two letters of recommendation from CSUF faculty or staff Attach a copy of your acceptance letter into study abroad program Write a full-page essay that (1) Describes how you have made significant contribution to the community through involvement with on and off campus clubs or organization, (2) Describe how your involvement has contributed to your personal development Submit completed application and two letters of recommendation to Victor M. Rojas Jr., Projects Manager — Special Programs, LH 809.

Leon and Annette Gilbert Study Abroad Scholarship

This scholarship was established and funded by Dr. Leon Gilbert and his wife Annette to assist students in meeting their educational expenses in a student program. Dr. Gilbert is a Professor Emeritus from the Modern Languages — Literature department. The recipients will be selected by a Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) scholarship committee.

Open to	This scholarship is open to continuing HSS students who are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree and have been accepted to a California State University sponsored study abroad program
Amount	$500 (two awards)
Application Deadline	Summer — March 17 Fall — June 2 Spring — November 15
Criteria	2.5 GPA.
Application Procedure:	Complete the SAapplication, answer all 7 questions, and sign the certification Submit application to College of Humanities and Social Sciences, H-211, Dean's Office Scholarship Committee.

International Leadership Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Alumni Association and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) to assist students in meeting educational expenses while studying in a California State University (CSU) sponsored Study Abroad program. Five $500 scholarships will be awarded; two scholarships for this summer term, one for the fall semester, and one for the spring semester.

Open to	This scholarship is open to currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at Cal State Fullerton's College of HSS who have been accepted to a CSU sponsored Study Abroad program.

Application Deadline	Summer — March 17 Fall — June 2 Spring — November 15
Criteria	2.5 GPA International leadership activities
Application Procedure	Complete the SAapplication, answer all 7 questions, and sign the certification Write a 500-1000 word, typed statement that addresses, either (1) Your current leadership activities which promote international understanding, or (2) how you will use your study abroad experience as preparation for future international leadership activities Submit application materials to H-211, Dean's Office Scholarship Committee

Friends of International Marketing Scholarship

This scholarship was established to recognize and honor a continuing International Business major student who has demonstrated outstanding overall record in preparation for a career in international business. The Friends of International Marketing Association will make the final decision. A personal interview may be required.

Open to	This scholarship is open to continuing International Business major students.

Application Deadline	March 2
Criteria	3.0 GPA, Extracurricular activities, Participation in student or professional activities, Study abroad experience.
Application Procedure	Complete the SAapplication, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification Provide a resume Prepare an application letter stating how you will use the funds and your career goals Submit application to the Department of Marketing, SGMH 5214; and 5) If requested, participate in an interview.

Cal State Fullerton Asian American and Pacific Islander Faculty and Staff Association Book Scholarship

This award was established by the Asian American and Pacific Island Faculty and Staff Association to recognize academic achievement, active involvement in the local and/or campus Asian American and Pacific Islander community and demonstrated financial need.

Open to	This award is open to CSUF full-time undergraduate and graduate students except previous AAPIFSA scholarship recipients.
Amount	Up to six $300 scholarships will be awarded
Application Deadline	February 24
Criteria	3.0 cumulative GPA for undergraduate students; 3.5 cumulative GPA for graduate students; financial need; community involvement in the local and/or campus Asian American and Pacific Islander community
Application Procedure	Download application from the AAPIFSA Web Site at www.fullerton.edu/aapifsa/Scholarships.htm or obtain a copy from the office of Dr. Eliza Noh, Asian American Studies Program, H-312E. Complete page one of the AAPIFSA application form. Write a 500-word, typed essay that responds to all the questions on page two of the AAPIFSA Application.
