CSUF Password Policy

To keep you and your data safe, CSU and CSUF require all users and service accounts to have passwords.

Required Password Changes

Based on CSU policy requirements and information security best practices, the campus password expiration guideline requires that all faculty, staff, emeriti and student employees change their campus password during the month of October and all currently enrolled students and alumni change their campus password annually.

  • Administrative/Department/AF accounts passwords are required to be changed annually. 
  • All Tier 1 & 2 and service accounts passwords are required to be changed every six months. 
    Email notifications will be sent out 30 days prior to password expiration to the owner and Department IT Coordinator for these accounts.

Password Requirements

  • Between 12-20 characters
  • Contain three of the following criteria:
    • Uppercase letters
    • Lowercase letters
    • Numbers
    • Allowed special characters
      • ! @ $ % & * ( ) , . - _ +
  • No part of your name or username can be used
  • Use a unique password. Do not use a password that is the same or similar to one you use for other websites or personal use accounts.
  • Should not include "guessable" information such:
    • Username, name, social security number, nickname, relative’s names, birth date, etc.

You cannot use your last 24 campus passwords

Unable to reset your password because you forgot your security questions?

  • Call the Student IT Help Desk at (657) 278-8888
  • Walk-in: Student Genius Center, Pollak Library North - 1st Floor

You can reset a password via Zoom (for phone support) or in-person (for walk-in support).

You will be required to verify ID:

  • Driver's License
  • State ID
  • Passport

Passwords will not be reset over email or chat

* If you set-up security questions, you can use the Employee Forgot Password option.

Walk-in

Visit the Academic Technology Center (ATC), located on the second floor of Pollak Library South (PLS-237) in-person with a valid photo ID during their business hours.  ATC will not reset passwords over email or phone.

 

Department IT Coordinator

Have your Department IT Coordinator (DITC) submit a  Password Reset Request

 

Passwords will not be reset over the phone, chat or direct email.

Administrative / Department / Tier 1 & 2 Accounts

Your Department IT Coordinator (DITC) will need to submit a password reset request on your behalf using one of these options.

Walk-in

Students/Alumni

Changing Your Password

  1. Login to your Portal
  2. In the upper right corner click on your Profile icon
  3. Click on Account Settings
  4. Under Student Account Settings click on + next to Change Portal Password
  5. Type in your current, new and confirm new passwords
  6. Click on Update
  7. Update your password for the campus WiFi on your devices.

Changing Your Security Questions

Setting up security questions will allow you to use the self-service password reset option if you forget your password.

  1. Login to your Portal
  2. In the upper right corner click on your Profile icon
  3. Click on Account Settings
  4. Under Student Account Settings click on +next to Password Reset Security Questions
  5. Select 3 different questions and provide answers. Note: the word/pharse you use for your answer is not case sensitive
  6. Click on Update

How to Change your Password

Change your password through the Campus Portal.  Follow the instructions provided on the screen.

Mobile Device Updates

After you have changed your campus password, you will need to update your smartphone/tablet/laptop with the new password.

After a campus password change, update your  iFullerton App password on smartphone/tablet.

Apple Devices
  1. Tap More tab at the bottom
  2. Tap Log Out button
  3. Sign in with username and password                      
Android Devices
  1. Tap the grey Info (i) button toward the bottom of the Home Menu
  2. Tap Log Off button
  3. Sign in with username and password
