Accessibility helps everyone

Campus websites need to be ready to help anyone who visits.  It is more than just helping blind or deaf users, the number of people who require help from some kind of assistive technology is growing each year. The way you write pages should help everyone who uses them regardless of their abilities or needs.  Making accessible content will also help improve your site's SEO ranking.

Yes, its the law

While we don't focus on the need to do this work because it is our legal responsibility, we want to make sure that we understand first and foremost it's the right thing to do; however, it IS a legal requirement to have your content accessible. There are several federal and state laws that govern regulations regarding accessibility and the standards.

Visit the Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI) website for more information.

What is PopeTech?

The campus has purchased access to a scanning solution that lives in the cloud.  After getting trained you will be set up with an account inside PopeTech which is linked to your campus username / password.

PopeTech scans each website for accessibility issues and reports back to our system automatically.  Web editors should review their results and fix any issues found by the scanner.

PopeTech also has many articles, posts, and discussions you can read about accessible content and can teach you how to resolve issues you may see reported.  Check out their help section for more information.
