MQE for MATH 150A, MATH 135, and MATH 130

The Mathematics Department offers the Mathematics Qualifying Exam (MQE) to current, transfer or international students wishing to enroll into MATH 130, MATH 135 or MATH 150A. 
 

WHAT IS THE MATHEMATICS QUALIFYING EXAM (MQE)?

The MQE is a calculus readiness test that is used as a pre-requisite for enrolling into MATH 130, 135, and 150A.  The MQE consists of 45 multiple-choice questions and test-takers are given 75 minutes to answer all 45 questions. The exam is taken remotely on a designated day and requires registration through ProctorUOpens in new window .

 

MQE EXEMPTIONS

Students are exempt from the MQE if they meet any of the following:

  • Student has passed either MATH 115 (for MATH 130, 135) or MATH 125 (for MATH 130, 135 and 150A) at CSUF or an equivalent college level course elsewhere with a “C” or better.
  • Appropriate score on the ALEKS.

If you have taken an equivalent math course at another college, you must submit a copy of your transcript or course grade, a course description and a course syllabus to the Mathematics Department prior to registering for MATH 130, MATH 135 or MATH 150A.

How much does it cost? 

The required registration fee is $19.75. Late fees will be applied if you register 24-72 hours before the exam.

 

What’s a passing score?

Math 130: 25 or higher
Math 135: 25 or higher
Math 150A: 32 or higher

 

When will I know my score?

You will receive your score via your student email in 1-2 Business days. Your score will only be valid for 2 semesters.

 

Can I use a calculator?

No, calculators will not be allowed. You may use multiple sheets of blank paper only.
