Actuarial Studies Scholarship

Amount $500 for up to two students
Established By This scholarship was established by the School of Risk Management and Insurance for the benefit of students with a passion for risk management and insurance.
Open To New and continuing math or business students who are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree.
Application Procedure Complete the School of Risk Management and Insurance online application form.

Russell V. and Betty L. Benson Scholarship for Undergraduate Mathematics Students

Amount $6,000 each for up to four students
Established By This endowed scholarship is funded by the Dr. Russell V. Benson and Betty L. Benson Endowment Fund for Undergraduate Mathematics Students.
Open To Open to sunior or senior undergraduate mathematics majors who will be enrolled at CSUF during the 2025–2026 academic year and who are U.S. citizens.

Russell V. and Betty L. Benson Scholarship for Graduate Mathematics Students

Amount $8,000 each for up to three students
Established By This endowed scholarship is funded by the Dr. Russell V. Benson and Betty L. Benson Endowment Fund for Graduate Mathematics Students.
Open To Open to graduate students who will be pursuing a master’s degree in the Department of Mathematics at CSUF during the 2025–2026 academic year and who are U.S. citizens.

The Bonsangue Family Scholarship

Amount $1,500
Established By This scholarship was established by Martin and Nancy Bonsangue to assist students majoring in mathematics who are the first in their family to complete a bachelor's or master's degree.

Cheryl and Carl Carrera Mathematics Scholarship

Amount $1,500
Established By This endowed scholarship was established and is funded by mathematics’ alumna Dr. Cheryl Carrera and her husband Carl Carrera. It is awarded to a student who is majoring in mathematics and faces unique personal and/or academic challenges.
Open To Open to returning or continuing undergraduate students majoring in mathematics; graduating students who will be entering either the Mathematics Credential program or one of the master’s degree programs offered by the Mathematics Department at CSUF.

Farnham Family Endowed Scholarship

Amount $2,000
Established By This scholarship was established by Paul and Dena Farnham to help students pursuing a graduate degree in either the Teaching or Applied option and who are also currently teaching or have taught at the secondary school level.
Open To Open to new and continuing students who are pursuing a graduate degree in the teaching or applied mathematics programs here at CSUF, who are currently or have previously taught at the secondary school level.

The Dr. Gerald Gannon Scholarship

Amount $1000
Established By This scholarship was established by the family and friends of Dr. Gannon to assist students who are or are planning to become secondary or community college teachers of mathematics.
Open To Open to new and continuing students who are enrolled in the Master of Mathematics: Teaching Option program.

The Kathryn Godshalk Memorial Scholarship

Amount $2,000
Established By This scholarship was established by the family of Mrs. Kathryn Godshalk to recognize distinction in mathematical study and to provide financial assistance.

Open to second year graduate students in either the applied math or teaching math options of our M.A. Program who plan on becoming a math teacher.

The Maijian Qian and Bob Houghton Mathematics Scholarship

Amount $1,500 each for up to two students
Established By Established by Dr. Maijian Qian and Bob Houghton to recognize distinction in mathematics study and to provide financial assistance.
Open To Open to continuing students who have completed or are currently taking Math 250B/207 and Math 280.

Lawrence Weill Applied Mathematics Scholarship

Amount $1,000 
Established By This scholarship was established by family and friends in memory of Dr. Lawrence Weill, professor of applied mathematics. Dr. Weill was a professor at CSUF from 1980 to his retirement in 2001. Dr. Weill was also active in research and author of books related to Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
Open To Open to new and continuing students who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in Applied Mathematics concentration.

The Stiel Prize for Excellence in Mathematics

Amount $1,500
Established By This endowed scholarship is by nomination only. This scholarship was established by Dr. Edsel Stiel and Mrs. Laurie Stiel to recognize and honor students who have demonstrated a strong interest and ability in mathematics.
Open To Undergraduate mathematics students
Criteria

Must have demonstrated strong interest and ability in mathematics as evidenced by:

  • A high level of performance in advanced math courses and,
  • A record of accomplishments outside of courses, including activities such as:
    1. participation in a REU or other research program,
    2. presentations of research at regional or national meetings,
    3. submission of research or problem solutions to mathematics journals, and/or
    4. a high level of performance in mathematical competitions.

Scholarships Funded by the Math and Science Teacher Initiative (MSTI)

Amount amount varies
Established By The Mathematics and Science Teacher Initiative (MSTI) program provides numerous scholarships to those in pursuit of single subject teaching credentials in math or science.
Open To Varies; some scholarships are for current junior/senior undergraduates, while others are for post-baccaulaureate credential students.

Recruiting and transitioning math majors into teaching | Noyce scholars

Amount up to $30,000 or $10,000 a year
Established By Drs. Cherie Ichinose, David Pagni, Adam Glesser, and Antoinette Linton were awarded this National Science Foundation-funded Robert F. Noyce grant for 2024-2028.
Open To Current junior, senior undergraduate math majors and credential candidates
Criteria
  • At most 90 units to graduation
  • Full time enrollment (12 units) in an undergraduate mathematics degree program or credential.
  • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA
  • Strong interest in teaching as a career
  • Potential to be a highly effective teacher in a diverse public school setting
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Must submit a FAFSA application annually and have demonstrated financial need
