What is Advising?

Advising refers to a semesterly meeting between a mathematics major and their advisor to discuss the student’s academic progress, talk about any challenges or circumstances that may be affecting their studies, identify any additional resources that may be helpful, and plan the upcoming semester’s coursework.

Students are required to receive advising from a mathematics faculty advisor each term prior to registering for courses in the upcoming semester. Students will select an appointment within a specific two-week period to ensure they are advised prior to their enrollment date.

Fall Advising: Mathematics majors receive an email in late September to early October with instructions to schedule their Fall advising appointment with a faculty advisor.

Spring Advising: Mathematics majors receive an email in late February to early March with instructions to schedule their Spring advising appointment with a faculty advisor.

Who is my Advisor?

Math majors may select an advisor each semester based on availability of the full-time faculty members. It is recommended to meet with an advisor within your specific concentration. If you do not have a concentration declared yet, you may meet with any math faculty.

Off-cycle Advising

If students are unable to meet with their advisor during the two-week advising window, please reach out to the following off-cycle advisors based on concentration:
