In her presentation, "Integrating Translanguaging into Formative Assessment: Lessons from a Chinese Immersion Classroom," Dr. Cathy Wong discusses the impact of applying translanguaging pedagogy in dual language immersion classrooms, using the 5-stage framework of the Translanguaging Design Cycle (García et al., 2017; Seltzer et al., 2025)

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Chiu-Yin 'Cathy' Wong

Professor, Monmouth University

Dr. Cathy Wong is the Professor of TESOL and Bilingual Education at Monmouth University. Before earning her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Second Language Education from Texas Tech University, she taught in Hong Kong, Korea, Hawaii, and Texas. Her research focuses on teachers’ implementation of translanguaging pedagogy and how it supports student engagement in ESL and Chinese immersion contexts. She recently directed the federally funded STARTALK Chinese Language Program, promoting linguistic and cultural diversity through innovative learning experiences. She received the Research Output Prize from the University of Hong Kong in 2023 and the Distinguished Teaching Award from Monmouth University in 2024.
