Be an Orientation Leader

Orientation Leaders (OLs) at CSUF are a diverse group of students that are united by their passion to help.  The OLs assist and support incoming students and their family members as they navigate their new campus.  While they are serving new students, OLs develop leadership skills that help them stand out on campus, in their communities and in their future careers.

Educationally Related Learning Outcomes

Orientation Leaders will:

  • Increase communication skills (public speaking and interpersonal communication)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of campus resources and tailoring information to respective populations
  • Increase multicultural competency by learning how to work with diverse populations
  • Develop base level coaching and listening skills
  • Identify leadership style by articulating personal strengths and skills
  • Learn how to network and interact with campus partners and new students/guests
  • Be able to balance professional standards and expectations
  • Enhance time management skills
  • Learn how to manage large and small groups
  • Recognize and apply conflict resolution skills
  • Enhance critical thinking and problem solving

Position Commitments

  • Participate in weekly training meetings on Fridays throughout the Spring 2016 semester (9 am – 11 am) 
    March 18, 25; April 8, 15, 29; May 13
  • Participate in monthly training meetings on Fridays throughout the Spring 2016 semester (2 pm – 4 pm) 
    March 11; April 22; May 6

  • Participate in “Welcome to Cal State Fullerton Day” training (April 8th, 2016) and staff “Welcome to Cal State Fullerton Day” (Saturday, April 9th, 2016)

  • Participate in ALL mandatory Summer Orientation Leader trainings
     May, June, July, and August 2016                (Transfer and New Student Orientation, Student Life Orientation)

  • Facilitate all Summer 2016 orientation program sessions
    May, June, July, and August 2016             (Transfer and New Student Orientation)
    August TBD                                                (Titan WOW)

Please note that all dates are subject to change.  The Orientation Leader staff will be notified of any changes.

Attention: Orientation Leaders cannot hold positions with Camp Titan or as Resident Assistants once selected.
