Before Orientation

It is important to prepare yourself before orientation, to ensure that you get the most out of your TSO experience.

Portal & E-mail

Before attending orientation, all students will need to set up their Student Portal and campus e-mail account. If you need assistance setting up your campus e-mail, feel free to watch the web-tutorial.

Placement Tests

Depending on your major, you may need to take the Math Qualifying Exam (MQE) and the Chemistry Placement Exam (CPE). You can learn more about Placement Tests here.

Check your “Holds”

It is vital that you check your negative service indicators, or ‘holds,’ before attending your New Student Orientation. To check your service indicators, follow the steps below:

  • Log into your Portal
  • Click on Titan Online
  • Click on your Student Center
  • Under the Holds box you should see the “Transfer Student Orientation” hold – do not worry, all incoming transfer students will have that hold, which will be taken care of at Transfer Student Orientation (or 24 hours after completing the Online Transfer Overview).
    • Note: Some students may also see “Financial Aid – Good News!” listed here.  This is simply an informational hold indicating the student has pending financial aid.
  • If you have any additional holds listed, click Details at the bottom of the Holds box.
  • From this page, you can click each hold to see detailed information, including appropriate contact information and any action you may need to take in order to release the hold.
Preparing for Academic Advisement

You are encouraged to preview the pre-advisement tutorial before you attend your New Student Orientation session. This is a 20 minute pod-cast that will help you better understand General Education at Cal State Fullerton.

Print your Titan Degree Audit

We encourage you to print and read your Titan Degree Audit (TDA). This is the primary advising tool that you will use at New Student Orientation, and for the rest of your time at CSUF.
