22JudicialAffairsAcademicIntegrityWorkshopsDEPARTMENTMISSIONSTATEMENTThemissionofJudicialAffairsistoarticulatetostudentsthestandardsofbehaviorexpectedwithintheUniversitycommunity.Educationofstudentswithinthecontextofthesestandardswhichincludehonestyandpersonalintegrityrespectforothersasbothindividualsandgroupsassumptionofappropriateresponsibilityforonex19sownbehavioroccursbothpreventativelypublicationspresentationsinteractionandreflectivelythroughthejudicialprocess.CorollarytotheeducationofstudentsistheprotectionoftheUniversitycommunity.Standardsofstudentconductensurerespectforallmembersofthecommunityandmaintenanceofanenvironmentconductivetolearningandpersonalgrowth.Protectionofthecommunityoccursinitiallythrougheducatingstudentsaboutappropriatebehavioranddecision-makingandsubsequentlythroughadjudicationofinappropriatebehaviorwheneducationhasnotenabledstudentstolivewithinUniversitystandards.ThegoalsoftheofficeareTopreparestudentsforsuccessintheacademiccommunitybyarticulatingUniversitystandardsacademicandbehavioralinsuchawaythatstudentscanliveandfunctionsuccessfullywithinthatcommunityToassessstudentlearningwhichoccursthrougheducationaloutreachaswellasthroughthestudentconductprocessincludingassignededucationalinterventionsToeducateothermembersoftheUniversitycommunityconcerningstandardsofconductforstudentsensuringstudentsaretreatedequitablyandfairlyandthatstandardsareuniversallyunderstoodandappliedToprovideongoingconsultationtomembersofthecommunityconcerningtheinterpretationandapplicationofUniversitystandardsforstudentbehaviorToassistindevelopingandorrevisingUniversitypoliciesrelatedtostudentconductandstudentaffairsToadjudicatecomplaintsregardingstudentbehaviorwithinordirectlyrelatedtotheUniversitycommunityinafairconsistentandtimelymannerToassistineffectinginstitutionalchangebyimprovingUniversitysystemsandToprovideservicetothestudentaffairsprofessiontheUniversitythedivisionandthedepartment.PROGRAMSERVICEOVERVIEWAcademicIntegrityWorkshopsAcademicIntegrityWorkshopslearningoutcomeswereassessedforintegrityworkshopspresentedtonewstudents.TheAssociateDeanadministeredapreandpostsurveyto106freshmeninsixsectionsofUniversity100classesduringFallSemester2010.Thepre-testsurveyconsistedofeightmultiplechoicequestionsandoneopenedendeddefinitionrelatedtoacademicintegrityandwasadministeredpriortoa75minuteworkshop.AftertheAcademicIntegrityworkshopwascompletedthesameparticipantswerethenadministeredthepost-test.Thepurposeoftheworkshopsistointroducenewstudentstotheexpectationsthattheuniversityhasforacommunityofscholars.TheAssociateDeanconductedworkshopstoanadditional144studentsinsixsectionsbuthadincompleteassessmentdata.LEARNINGDOMAINSocialCivicResponsibilityLEARNINGOUTCOMES1.StudentswillincreasetheirknowledgeofacademicintegrityexpectationsatCSUF.2.Studentswillincreasetheirknowledgeoftheconsequencesofacademicdishonesty.3.Studentswillincreasetheirknowledgeofacademicintegrityresourcesoncampus.4.Studentswillincreasetheirunderstandingofthedisciplinaryprocess.5.Studentswillhaveanopportunitytodiscusstheirunderstandingofacademicintegritywiththeirpeers.PROJECTSAMPLE106studentsintheUniversity100classDATACOLLECTIONTIMEFRAMEFall2010DATACOLLECTIONMETHODSPrePosttestLIMITATIONSDuetotherelativelyshorttimeperiodbetweenpreandpostteststherewouldbeanexpectedincreaseinscoresandlikelyincreaseintheabilityofstudentstoretainthelearnedinformation.
