Western Regional Careers in Student Affairs Day

Lori S. White, Ph.D.

Picture of Lori S. WhiteDr. Lori S. White is currently Associate Vice-President for Student Affairs at the University of Southern California.

Dr. White has worked in higher education for 25 years at the University of California, and Georgetown, Stanford and San Diego State Universities. Prior to assuming her current position at USC, she was Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at San Diego State University. Dr. White has also worked as Associate Vice-Provost for Undergraduate Education and Director of Undergraduate Advising at Stanford University, the Director of Student Programs at Georgetown University, and the Director of the Cross Cultural Center at the University of California, Irvine. Additionally, her work in higher education has included serving as a committee consultant to the California State Assembly Committee on Higher Education and as a Special Assistant to the University of California, Office of the President. Dr. White also has experience in the K-12 policy arena as a Special Assistant to the San Francisco Superintendent of Schools and as a research assistant to the Pew Forum on Education Reform.

Dr. White received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and English from the University of California, Berkeley and her Ph.D. in Education Policy from Stanford University. Her research focuses on college student development and experiences. Dr. White is the co-editor of the book, "Higher Education and School Reform,” and has a chapter focused on black college student experiences in a book titled "African American Culture and Heritage in Higher Education Research and Practice" as well as a number of other publications. Dr. White serves as an adjunct faculty member in USC’s Rossier School of Education and she previously held adjunct faculty positions at the Stanford School of Education and the College of Education at San Diego State University.

Dr. White was born and raised in San Francisco, CA and is an avid college football and basketball fan. Her claim to fame is that she knows the name of just about every Division I college mascot.
