Developing Passionate Citizens
Giving back, both to the university and surrounding community, is an important expectation of a President's Scholar.
All scholars willingly step up and volunteer or perform community service. The President’s Scholars Student Association seeks and plans service projects and activities, which allow the students to make a difference for others in a meaningful way. They also join campus-wide service initiatives and national organizations.
The types of service and projects are as varied as the scholars themselves, but their contributions and passion for giving back are evident everywhere. The roster of community service organizations include Ronald McDonald House, Big Brothers Big Sisters Program of Orange County, St. Joseph Hospital and St. Jude Medical Center, Orangewood Children’s Home and Pretend City Children’s Museum.
Scholars also volunteer as tax preparers for the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, donate blood, tutor students of all ages, register voters, and assemble care packages for U.S. soldiers as a way to give back to the military men and women serving their country.
