Simon Geoffrey Akl graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in health science and minors in both kinesiology and French. He is a Dean's Scholar in the College of Health and Human Development and has been involved in many community and on-campus activities involving children with special needs. Simon is passionate about medicine, focusing on lifestyle choices and prevention care. He has volunteered at Fortanasce & Associates physical therapy and sports medicine center, and during his senior year, he interned for CSUF's Employee Wellness Program. Simon will attend Western University of the Health Sciences in the fall to pursue a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree and plans to supplement it with a Master of Public Health. He looks forward to being involved with CSUF as an active alumnus as well as helping his community
Maureen Fox graduated summa cum laude with bachelor of arts degrees in English and communications-journalism. As an active member of the President's Scholars Student Association, Maureen served as social chair, Santa Scholars representative and secretary, and she enjoyed participating in community service events and various committees. She is a member of five honor societies, was a staff writer for the Daily Titan newspaper and served as design director for Tusk magazine. Additionally, Maureen has worked as a student assistant in the Office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance for four years. Maureen studied abroad her junior year at the University of Hull in England, where she wrote for the student magazine and traveled extensively. Her experiences have sparked a passion for travel, which she hopes to incorporate into her writing. Maureen will attend CSUF in the fall to pursue a master's degree in English. She anticipates a career in journalism and ultimately plans to earn her doctorate to become an English professor. She thanks everyone in the President's Scholars program, the VPAF office staff and her amazing family and friends for their support, inspiration and encouragement over the years.
Jason works for Rockwell Collins on In-Flight Entertainment systems, notably the Airshow moving map products, customizing the look and feel of our maps to match the user interface and design elements of airline and bizjet clients. He is a board member for the local region of Destination ImagiNation, creative problem solving program for K-12 students. Jason also serves as a Multimedia Manager and Photographer for various Future Business Leaders of America conferences.
"In my opinion, there is no better program to prepare you for a career or for graduate school," Jason said. "The networking within the program, the financial freedom to build your career experience and resume, and the direct access to enthusiastic faculty and staff are second to none."
Elizabeth Holcomb graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in child and adolescent development. She made the Dean's List every semester while enrolled in the university. Elizabeth was involved in the Child and Adolescent Studies Student Association as well as the Volunteer and Service Center on campus. Through these organizations, she volunteered for groups like the Orangewood Children's Home and Pretend City. She had several internships in local elementary schools during her college career, and she is a teacher's aide at the CSUF Children's Center. Elizabeth plans to return in the fall to complete the combined Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential and master's program.
Silvica is currently working with University Advancement and the CSUF Alumni Association to create a club for President's Scholars. Her goal is to provide past scholars an opportunity to reconnect with current scholars and cultivate a spirit of giving back to CSUF and the program. Silvica works in the finance department at Thales-Raytheon Systems located in Fullerton,CA. She keeps herself busy volunteering her time at her church with various ministries, spending time with family and attending CSUF scholar events.
