Peer Health University Network
PHUN recruited new members at this semester’s Discoverfest. New members are welcomed to join during the first two weeks of fall and spring semester.
Active Minds empowers students to speak openly about mental health in order to educate others and encourage help seeking. Members plan out various events throughout the semester to promote mental health and suicide prevention.
Keep a look out for the PHUN Hut to learn about the topic of the week and receive free giveaways! Join our PHUN Facebook group, SHCC Facebook page and PHUNstagram to always be informed of the PHUN Hut’s location. A frequency card will be given out and once it is fully punched, students will be entered in an opportunity drawing.
PHUN partnered with University PD, Rec Center and RADD to educate students on healthy behaviors. Hundreds of housing students attended the event.
What is Peer Health University Network?
Peer Health University Network (PHUN) is a student-based organization whose purpose is to promote healthy behaviors and practices to fellow California State University, Fullerton students and assist with programs provided by the Health Education and Promotion Department. Peer Health Educators (PHE’s) are trained to provide presentations and coordinate campus outreach events on a variety of health topics affecting our college campus today, including reproductive health, alcohol, tobacco and other drug information, nutrition, physical fitness, stress management, mental health, and general health.
What types of activities does the PHUN plan?
PHUN is involved in a number of educational and outreach activities on campus. The PHUN Hut is one of the new additions this year; CSUF students will be exposed to health related topics such as breast cancer, sexual health, alcohol, tobacco, nutritional and stress/sleep throughout the year. Other events include Project Zzz, National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week, World AIDS Day, Nutrition 101 workshops, and the annual health fair.
Who can become a PHUN member?
Any student enrolled at CSUF, who is in good academic standing, can apply to become a member of PHUN. Membership applications are due within the first two weeks of the fall and spring semester. We encourage any student who is interested in health and wellness to join our organization, regardless of their major. All PHUN members are expected to attend meetings from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM every-other Friday during the fall and spring semesters of each academic year.
HESC 494 Practicum
The Student Health and Counseling Center will be accepting HESC 494 practicum students during the fall and spring semesters. Practicum students earn their hours by attending bi-monthly PHUN meetings on Fridays from 10:00-11:30am and outreach events throughout the semester. Practicum students have the opportunity to be part of every aspect of program planning. PHUN is a great way to apply all that you are learning in the health science courses. To apply, fill out this application and return it to the front desk of the Student Health and Counseling Center by Friday, September 6, 2013. If you have any questions, please contact Kerri Boyd
