Alcohol, Marijuana, & Other Drugs

Illicit Drugs and Marijuana
Illicit drug use is often misperceived as being a part of the college experience. This presentation covers prescription drug abuse, street drugs, study drugs, and marijuana.  Learn about the most commonly used illegal and prescription drugs, the warning signs of drug dependence and addiction, and the real data concerning drug use at Cal State Fullerton.

"Titan Up the Party" - Alcohol Awareness
Using a harm-reduction approach to alcohol use, this presentation addresses standard drink size, blood alcohol concentration (BAC), binge drinking defined, and how to be a friend when alcohol poisoning is a concern. Also covered are alcohol use relating to sexual misconduct and how alcohol use can affect academic performance.

Fooducation Live!
Join our Peer Health Educators on our Instagram reels and live food demos. Demos will be both on campus and live via zoom. Monthly themes cover the nutrition basics focused on the cultures, traditions, and local foods on campus and in our CSUF communities. Workshop series Incentives include everything you need to increase your confidence in the kitchen; Small Kitchen Appliances, Recipe Books, Cutting Boards, and more. Is fitness your forte? Or do you dread working out? Whether you’re a seasoned athlete, casual exerciser, or habitual couch potato, Refuel, Rehydrate, Rebuild offers something for all. We’ll discuss healthy physical activity ideas for busy students, how to fuel and hydrate before, during, and after activity, protein powders and other supplements, and calorie and macronutrient needs for bulking, cutting, and maintenance.

Sexual Health & Healthy Relationships 

The Lowdown on Gettin’ Down
Discussing the importance of sexual responsibility may be difficult for some individuals; however, this presentation offers an educational overview of sexually transmitted infections, barrier and contraceptive methods, and sexual communication skills. With a little bit of humor and a lot of information, this presentation makes for an educational and socially relevant experience.

STI Prevention & Birth Control
The choice to be sexually active is a personal one; however, knowing the risks for sexually transmitted infections, as well as being aware of birth control methods can help individuals make safer decisions when the time arrives.  This presentation provides detailed information on the common STIs and features a show-and-tell of various pregnancy prevention options.

Violence Prevention

Due to limited professional staff support at the moment, TitanWell is offering the following workshops. Additional workshops coming soon.

Step Up
This workshop draws on a community-focused bystander intervention framework that teaches safe, low-level intervention skills when encountering troubling sexual encounters, romantic dynamics, and other high-tension situations.  

Violence Prevention 101
An overview of sexual assault and harassment, stalking, interpersonal violence, consent, bystander intervention, campus, and community resources and how to help a friend.  

INDIVIDUAL CONSULTATIONS

All individual appointments are 30-60 minutes and are now being held over Zoom or on the phone.

Alcohol and Marijuana Use
Has someone mentioned to you that they are concerned about your drinking or marijuana use? Our Health Educator meets with individual students who are focusing on using in moderation. 

Sexual Health
Consultations include a discussion of various birth control methods, sexually transmitted infections, healthy decision making, partner communication, and other reproductive health issues.

Health and Wellness Coaching (HWC)
College is a time of great discovery. That includes understanding the kind of life you want to live both today and in the future. Wellness coaching is a holistic, evidence-based approach centered on creating meaningful and purposeful action plans and providing ongoing support to get the results you want. Coaching utilizes a framework that optimizes wellness for student success through a collaborative, non-judgmental, inclusive, and confidential partnership. Coaches help you assess what is currently working for you and what may not be working to identify your optimal health vision. You are the expert in your own life and know where you want to go, but you may feel 'stuck' or aren't sure how to get there. If you have a goal you are working towards or any healthy habits you are interested in developing, coaching can be a catalyst for implementing that change you seek! Board Certified HWC study and are trained in Integrative medicine focus areas, including nutrition, physical activity, and mindfulness.

Through personal assessment and empowering empathetic conversations, HWC's partners with undergraduate and graduate students to positively impact these areas of wellbeing:

  • Nutrition and Physical Activity - emphasis on what eating healthy and moving your body, looks like for you
  • Procrastination and time management
  • Resilience and stress management
  • Making changes and finding time for your physical well-being
  • Professional and academic goals and how to realistically achieve them
  • Identifying protective lifestyle behaviors to prevent disease later in life

Your certified coach from TitanWell, Jennifer Langenwalter, MPH, NBC-HWC, CHES, provides personalized guidance to help you understand what wellness means for you. If you think HWC is a good fit for you, committing to 4-6 coaching sessions helps increase overall success. Each session will last between 30 and 45 minutes and is strictly confidential**   You are not required to discuss any known medical conditions.

 

Coaching strategies and benefits:

  • Self-Discovery to help you determine what matters most to you and build a life around those values
  • Become more self-aware and self-accepting
  • Increase your agency and self-efficacy to take control of your well-being
  • Empower you and help you increase confidence
  • Identifying your unique strengths to overcome challenges, increase motivation, and set a path towards thriving and optimal health
  • Learn and practice skills
  • Try new things that bring you greater happiness
  • Connecting with campus and local resources will enable you to succeed in your desired changes and create a sense of belonging at school
 

What to expect before and during the sessions:

  • Students will complete an intake form before the first session to identify specific areas of growth to focus on. In addition, students will also identify strengths that can be used to assist them in accomplishing their goals
  • Creating an adequate wellness vision, individualized for your needs and personal wellness goals
  • Identify and create meaningful wellness, professional, and academic goals
  • Create an action plan that incorporates realistic strategies tailored to your busy schedule.
  • Addressing obstacles that might get in the way of your success
  • Supporting and guiding you in sticking to your plan by providing accountability, problem-solving, and incremental skill-building
  • Assessing and reevaluating when life gets in the way of your plan
 

What wellness coaching is not:

  • Please be advised that coaching sessions are not a substitute for licensed clinical medical practitioners. Coaches cannot diagnose or treat medical issues or authorize medical tests.
  • There are certain situations where the needs of an individual cannot be met by wellness coaching. In those situations, you will be directed to a clinician, dietician, or another trained healthcare professional. In those situations, you can have sessions with a wellness coach to continue working on the goal-setting process related to the advice given by your healthcare professional. Areas out of the scope of practice include:
    • Medically necessary nutrition counseling and meal planning: Students can visit a Registered Dietician Nutritionist.
    • Therapy, e.g., for clinical depression or anxiety, unpacking family history, eating disorders, managing bipolar disorders, or other complex mental health issues. Our licensed and experienced therapists at CAPS are available to you if a therapist better serves your needs.
 

Logistics:

  • You will receive an e-mail from your Wellness Coach after you book your initial session through TitanWell at the Health Center
  • Sessions can be in person or virtual
  • Initial Visit: The first visit session typically lasts about 45 minutes to one hour. You will meet individually with a wellness coach for an active working session to identify your priorities and create a realistic action plan.
  • For a Zoom (online) appointment: You will need a tablet, laptop, or desktop. You can use your phone, but it is not recommended because it is harder to see the shared screen. Find someplace that is quiet and free of distractions.
  • Optional Follow-up Visits: You and your coach may determine additional meetings are necessary for your well-being success. Follow-up visits are typically 30 minutes and can be arranged weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly as necessary based on your goals and what is convenient with your schedule.

**There are some situations in which we are legally obligated to protect ourselves or others from harm. These include if we believe that a child, older person, disabled person, or
you are being abused or assaulted (physically/emotionally/sexually); if we believe that a student is threatening serious bodily harm to another; or if a student threatens to harm themselves. If a similar situation occurs during Wellness Coaching, we will make every effort to discuss it with you before taking any action fully.
