Community Engagement Services

Vision

Community Engagement Services will foster collective wellbeing by empowering all Titans to embody a felt sense of responsibility for playing an active role in the health and wellbeing of their communities on and off campus.

Mission

Community Engagement Services cultivates active community members through education, training, and skill-building. We partner with Titans to implement programming that is culturally specific, informed by lived experiences, and practically relevant in order to: use active and effective interventions to moments of crisis; facilitate productive and healthy relationships; foster a felt sense of connection; and promote healthy lifestyles for ongoing wellbeing.

Ready to ACT

Community Engagement Services foundational program is  Ready to ACT: Skills for Engaged Community Membership.  Ready to ACT  begins from the assertion that we all play a role in shaping the culture around us and in fostering individual and collective wellbeing. By acting within our spheres of influence—our relationships and communities—we can increase health, wellbeing, and a sense of connection, while minimizing occurrences of violence, unsafety, or illness .

Five Focus Areas

Ready to ACT focuses on empowering Titans across five target areas:

  • Physical health;  Promoting healthy lifestyles focusing on cooking, active movement, illness prevention, and crisis response. Skills for developing intentional eating practices, knowledge of the body’s needs, and responding to health distress.
  • Safer engagements with alcohol and other drugs;  Education on the impacts of alcohol and other drugs and the use of harm-reduction strategies when engaging with substances. Skills for recognizing the signs of alcohol poisoning or opioid overdose and appropriate responses.
  • Healthy relationships and sexualities;  Education and awareness on boundaries, safer sex practices, and identifying unhealthy or violent dynamics in relationships. Skills for utilizing harm reduction techniques for interpersonal interactions and to respond to instances of sexual, domestic, and dating violence.
  • Mental health; Promoting emotional and psychological wellbeing, education and awareness for supporting oneself, friends, and loved ones. Skills for developing coping mechanisms and recognizing the signs of mental health crisis and suicidality.
  • Inclusive communities;  Fostering collectivity and community connections as well as education and awareness on identities that are protected or vulnerable. Skills for empathy and allyship, tools for building connection and deepening relationships, intervention and prevention of implicit bias, discrimination, or violence.
Pilot Program

We are actively seeking campus partners to implement the Ready to ACT program. Through in-person workshops and online modules, we are excited to build a custom program to meet the needs of your community, department, or group. Please contact us at  readytoact@fullerton.edu  to learn more!
