Meet Provost Sean Walker, Ph.D.
Dr. Walker earned his BS in Chemistry from the University of Texas at Tyler after transferring from Tyler Junior College. He earned his MS and Ph.D. degrees in Zoology from Miami University in Ohio. His post-doctoral training was done at the University of Lethbridge in Southern Alberta. During his BS and MS degrees, his research focused on animal behavior, herpetology, and behavioral toxicology. His Ph.D. and post-doctoral work concentrated on the evolutionary and behavioral ecology of crickets and spiders. He joined the California State University, Fullerton faculty in 2003. He has published 42 peer-reviewed papers, many with faculty and student collaborators, and has received funding from the National Science Foundation. Dr. Walker was promoted to full professor in 2013. At Cal State Fullerton, he has been awarded the Natural Sciences and Mathematics award for outstanding teaching, the Carol Barnes Excellence in Teaching award, the Teamwork and Collaboration Award (with many others from the Supplemental Instruction team), and the Faculty Leadership in Collegial Governance award. Dr. Walker has served on numerous committees during his tenure at CSUF such as the NSM Equitable Excellence Committee, GI2025 Bottlenecks and Administrative Barriers Working Group, and was a key implementer for the Strategic Plan Goal 3 Recruit and Retain a High Quality and Diverse Faculty and Staff. He is currently serving on the Student Success Operational Committee, Black Student Success Committee, and the Supplemental Instruction Implementation Team to name a few. Dr. Walker has been part of the Project Kaleidoscope Summer Leadership Institute as a participant and mentor, the CSU Middle Leadership Academy as a participant and facilitator, and the American Association of State College and University’s Emerging Leaders Program. He served as the chair of the CSUF Academic Senate, Vice Chair and Chair of the Department of Biological Science, Associate Dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and most recently as Deputy Provost .
