From Story to Structure: Composing with Conceptual Time
Monday, February 9, 4:30 - 6:00 PM
CPAC 254
Free and open to the public
Description: In this presentation, I examine how concepts and stories can function as engines for compositional method. Focusing on my recent work with multiple temporal spaces, I draw on ideas from lived experience to rethink the temporal relationships within musical material. Through my operetta, I discuss how a character’s conceptual framework and lived experience actively shape musical time, form, and material, demonstrating how abstract ideas are translated into concrete compositional strategies and sonic structure.
