Larry M. Timm teaches oboe and is famous for his film music classes. The second edition of his book The Soul of Cinema, published by Prentice-Hall, is the standard film music appreciation text used by major colleges and universities throughout the United States and in various parts of the world. He is also author of a book on the Woodwind Instruments, to be published soon. An active performer, he was principal oboe with the Long Beach Symphony for 18 years. He continues to perform, and has played with numerous Los Angeles-based orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Pasadena Symphony and the Pacific Symphony Orchestra. During the last 30 years as a Hollywood studio musician he has been heard as oboe and English horn soloist on numerous motion picture and television soundtracks. Timm is also a producer of concerts for CBS and Sony Pictures. He received his bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University and two master’s degrees and a doctorate from Yale University.
