Choir Placement Auditions

All students can participate in our choral ensembles regardless of major.  Students from all over our campus sing with our choirs - and do so successfully throughout their time at CSUF!  The choirs sing for prestigious events in Southern California and travel all over the world making fantastic music.  Students in the choirs become very close, and often forge friendships they maintain for a lifetime.  

We have four major choral ensembles at CSUF:
• Titan Voices (MUS406W)
• Singing Titans (MUS406M)
• Concert Choir (MUS406B)
• University Singers (MUS406E) 

All choirs are open to CSUF students regardless of major! 

 

The 2023 Fall Choral Auditions will take place IN-PERSON at Cal State Fullerton in the choral rehearsal room (CPAC-127).
You are not required to wear a mask for your audition.

 

Titan Voices & Singing Titans

The TITAN VOICES and SINGING TITANS are open for registration without audition.

• The Titan Voices rehearses on Mondays and Wednesdays, 12:00pm-1:15pm. 
• The Singing Titans rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:30pm-3:50pm 

If you would like to participate in either, please feel free to sign-up! 

 

UNIVERSITY SINGERS & CONCERT CHOIR

Membership in the UNIVERSITY SINGERS and CONCERT CHOIR (our mixed ensembles) will be open but is contingent upon two auditions: a solo audition and a callback audition. 

• University Singers rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays,  4:00pm-5:50pm
• Concert Choir rehearses on Mondays and Wednesdays,  2:30pm-4:20pm.

The SOLO AUDITION dates/times for returning singers and new non-music majors are:

Tuesday, August 15: 10am-5pm – Returning and Non-Major Student Choral Auditions

Wednesday, August 16: 10am-5pm – Returning and Non-Major Student Choral Auditions

Thursday, August 17: 12pm-2:30pm- New Student Choral Auditions (as part of New Student Day)

Monday, August 21: 2:30-4:20pm – Returning/New/Non-Major Student Choral Auditions (as needed)

Tuesday, August 22: 4pm-5:50pm – University Singers Callback Auditions

Wednesday, August 23: 2:30-4:20pm- Concert Choir Callback Auditions (if needed)

New Music Majors will complete their choral audition during orientation day in the School of Music– Friday, August 18, 2023. 
New Majors DO NOT need to sign up for one of these auditions.

During your solo audition, Dr. Istad and Dr. Peterson will test your range, and then test your musicianship.  We will ask you to sight-read rhythms as well as tonal exercises.  (You are not required to sing a solo selection.)  Singers that successfully pass the individual audition for either chorus will be invited to attend a callback audition for one or both of the mixed choirs.

 CALLBACKS for UNIVERSITY SINGERS:
(mandatory to be considered for membership in University Singers):
• TUESDAY, August 22: 4:00pm – 6:00pm

 

ATTENTION RETURNING MEMBERS OF THE UNIVERSITY SINGERS

Singers that have performed with the CSUF University Singers for more than one academic year DO NOT need to sign up for an individual audition.
However, you must attend the callbacks
THIS IS A MANDATORY CALLBACK WITH NO MAKE-UPS

 

Placement Results

An email will be sent with audition results as soon as they are available but no later than Friday, August 18, 5:00pm.
