Student Math Teacher

TITLE: STUDENT MATH TUTOR
DEPARTMENT: CENTER FOR HEALTHY NEIGHBORHOODS
REPORTS TO: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
EE CLASSIFICATION: STUDENT
FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT
SALARY RANGE: $21.00/hour

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Student Math Tutor position at CSUF Center for Healthy Neighborhoods at Richman Community Center (off campus) is a student worker position designed to provide Cal State Fullerton students with valuable experience in youth educational learning and mentoring in a community-centered environment. This position serves as the math tutor of the Academic Success Program (ASP) to serve 6th through 12th grade students from diverse backgrounds with personalized support to enhance math skills and academic confidence. 

The hours for this position are Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 4pm-6:30pm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborate with other Center staff to successfully implement the math component of the Academic Success Program (ASP).
  • Help 6th through 12th grade students understand math concepts, complete assignments, and prepare for exams.
  • Develop individualized approaches to reinforce key concepts and address learning gaps.
  • Collaborate with the Math Consultant and ASP staff to ensure program success.
  • Build and support effective relationships and establish a rapport with the tutee and tutee's parent or legal guardian.
  • Foster a positive and encouraging learning environment.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the success of the Center’s mission.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled CSUF student majoring in Math with an interest in teaching or pursuing a career in math education.
  • Must be available to work Tuesday and/ or Thursday from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM. Availability for both days is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain math concepts clearly.
  • Patience, enthusiasm, and a commitment to student success.
  • Previous tutoring or teaching experience preferred, but not required.

EDUCATION:

  • Must be a currently enrolled CSUF student majoring in Math and in good academic standing

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Prolonged sitting in front of computer. Walking, talking, hearing, pulling, bending, may carry 10-15 pounds of objects/material, not exposed to extreme noise level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, taste or smell.
