ADA Title II – Web and Digital Accessibility

Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires public institutions, including universities, to ensure that digital services are accessible to individuals with disabilities. This includes websites, web applications, online services, academic course content, and other digital materials used to deliver programs and services.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has adopted the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as the technical standard for compliance.

 

Update (April 2026): The DOJ has issued an Interim Final Rule extending the compliance deadline for large public entities, including CSU campuses, to April 26, 2027.
The requirements remain in effect.
