ELIGIBILITY

If you are interested in CalFresh, please see the information below to determine if you are potentially eligible. All California residents must meet basic eligibility requirements. Students must then also meet the student eligibility criteria.  Please fill out the Pre-Screen Form linked below to see if you are potentially eligible for CalFresh.

BASIC ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS - AM I ELIGIBLE FOR CALFRESH?

Preliminary Eligibility Criteria

  1. Determine your household size: A household is defined as an person living alone or a group of people living together who purchase groceries and prepare food together. Example: If a student lives with three other roommates, but only purchases groceries for themselves, they would be considered a household of 1.
  2. Determine your household’s gross (before taxes) monthly income. Households cannot exceed the listed gross monthly income to be eligible for CalFresh

Other Considerations

  • Students who live with their parents and are under 22 years old, must apply with their family. Student who live with their parents and are 22 years old or older can apply as an individual household.
  • Mixed status households can apply. International, DACA, and DREAM students may not be eligible, even with a work VISA/SSN
  • Lawful Permanent Residents (LPRs) may be eligible

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

If you are a student between the ages of 18 and 49, enrolled in at least 6 units, have no meal plan (or have a meal plan that provides ten or less of your meals/week), you must also meet any ONE of the following:

  • Work 20 hours per week OR a total of 80 hours a month
  • Accepted or employed in a federal work study position
  • Receive Cal Grant A OR B with the CSAC CalFresh Letter
  • Employed at CSUF with an on-campus position
  • Enrolled in Guardian Scholars
  • Enrolled in a Local Program that Increase Employability (LPIE). Click here to view a list of approved LPIEs (sort by campus to view CSUF approved LPIEs).
  • Are a full-time student responsible for a child under 12, or a part-time student responsible for a child under 6, or a part-time student responsible for a child between 6-11 without adequate childcare.
  • Enrolled in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)
  • Have documentation that recognizes you are physically or mentally unfit to work 20 hours per week or receiving disability-based income
  • Are receiving CalWORKs or Tribal-TANF benefits
  • Not expecting to be enrolled in the next school term
