Meet the Executive Director, Student Academic Success and Engagement Strategies

Patience Bryant, Ph.D. 

Bryant is a native of Miami, Florida who is committed to equity, equality, liberation, restorative/transformative justice, and cultural humility in higher education. Prior to her current role, she has served as the Interim Deputy Diversity Officer in the Office of Diversity, Equity as well as the Director of Black/African American Equity at San Jose State University. Dr. Bryant served as the Director for Student Conduct and Ethical Development at Long Beach State University, where she oversaw the creation and implementation of the university’s first restorative justice program, W.A.V.E. (Welcoming Accountable Voices & Education), and served as the university’s chief judicial officer. Dr. Bryant earned her BA in Multimedia Journalism from Florida Atlantic University, her MA in Mass Communication from the University of Central Florida, and her Ph.D. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from Nova Southeastern University.

Meet the Assistant Director of Black Student Success Advising Program

Shannah Johnson 

Shannah Johnson is a native Californian and a proud Titan! Growing up with parents from southern roots, there was a strong emphasis on pursuing higher education, but little did Shannah know, that this would later become her career and life’s passion. Since her tenure at Cal State Fullerton, she has been a strong advocate for Black students by creating equitable spaces, due to her own experiences as a Black Titan. Shannah’s professional experience is comprised of first-year experience programming, office management, academic advising, campuswide transfer student programming and advising, as well as an adjunct lecturer in the College of Business and Economics. Shannah earned both her BS in Health Science and MS in Education with an emphasis in Higher Education from California State University, Fullerton.
