M.S. Admission Requirement

Candidates seeking admission to the master's program are expected to meet the following requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry or related field from an accredited college or university
  • M.S. Chemistry students have generally completed:
    • General Chemistry plus lab (1 year)
    • Organic Chemistry plus lab (1 year)
    • Quantitative Analysis (Analytical Chemistry) plus lab (1 year)
    • Physical Chemistry (1 year).
    • Students in the biochemistry concentration typically have completed at least 1 semester of biochemistry
• Minimum overall GPA of 2.75
• Science GPA of 2.75 or better in chemistry and/or biochemistry classes
• Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test is required for all applicants with an undergraduate degree from a university or college outside the United States.
• TOEFL, Test of English as a Foreign Language - All graduate applicants, regardless of citizenship, whose native language is not English and/or whose preparatory education was completed in a foreign country (even if instruction was in English) must demonstrate competence in English.  Applicants that possess a bachelor’s degree from a postsecondary institution outside the United states must take one of the English language exams:  TOEFL, IELTS or PTS.  Please see the Office of Admissions' Graduate Webpage for minimum score needed for admission and for more information.
• Official transcripts of undergraduate study - Foreign language transcripts must be accompanied by certified English translations. Official transcripts should be sent to the Office of Admissions. 
  • Because there can be delays having the official transcript sent, received, and processed, we strongly encourage applicants to get this process started early.
• Two professional letters of recommendation.
