About the College Readiness Programs

At CSUF, the College Readiness Programs comprise of the Early Assessment Program (EAP) and Supportive Pathways for First Year Students (Fullerton Together). Please explore the links below for more details about the support these programs provide to our community.

Early Assessment Program

EAP for Students

What is EAP?

The CSU Early Assessment Program (EAP) helps high school students evaluate their academic preparation for college, especially for writing and math courses in college. EAP looks at a number of factors — including a student’s high school GPA, test scores and courses taken in high school — to identify which first-year math and writing courses are the best fit for each admitted student. Visit the EAP page to learn more about our program and ways CSUF can help students and educators within Orange County.

Why is Early Assessment Important?

Like all colleges and universities, the CSU wants to make sure that incoming first year students are prepared to succeed. Students who complete general education math and written communication courses during their first year save time, money, and are twice as likely to graduate than those who don't. Giving students an indicator of their preparation level during their junior year of high school allows them to focus on critical skills before they arrive on the CSU campus for their first semester.

Multiple Measures for Placement

The Early Assessment Program gives students four opportunities to demonstrate academic preparation:

  1. The first measurement reviews standardized tests, including the CAASPP exam results received in junior year of high school, AP, ,IB, CLEP, ACT, and/or SAT.
  2. The second measure reviews High School Grade Point Average (GPA). This includes a calculation of "a-g" courses from grades 10 and 11 as reported on the CalState Apply application.
  3. The third measure reviews High School Math GPA. This includes a calculation of 9th, 10th, and 11th grade math courses completed in Area C and quantitative reasoning courses completed in Area G as reported on the CalState Apply application.
    1. Note: Algebra 1 and Geometry courses taken in middle school and reported on the CalState Apply application will also be included.
  4. The fourth measure reviews high school and college coursework. This includes approved high school English and math/quantitative resoning courses completed with a "C-" or better.

EAP for Educators

What is EAP for educators?

The CSU provides high school English and mathematics teachers with extensive professional development opportunities as well as rigorous curricula created by teams of CSU faculty and secondary education professionals.

The Early Assessment Program (EAP) for Educators includes the opportunity to attend the CSU Expository Reading and Writing Course (ERWC) Workshop, and implement the Mathematics Reasoning with Connections (MRWC) curriculum.

How do I request a presentation?

We are currently reimagining our EAP support for educators, and will provide updates as soon as presentation options become available in the spring of 2024. If you have any questions at this time, you may send an email to: eap@fullerton.edu

Fullerton Together

Supportive Pathways for First-Year Students Program

As part of the CSU’s commitment to academic preparation and student success, the Supportive Pathways for First-Year Students Program offers pathways for students identified through CSU placement standards as needing additional support with GE Written Communication and GE Math/Quantitative Reasoning requirements. CSUF has developed Fullerton Together, which focuses on offering personalized academic and social guidance during a student's first year, which may include optional summer participation.
