Who Can Apply?

We encourage students from all disciplines and majors to apply. Admission is competitive and based on several criteria, including academic performance, maturity, resilience, professionalism, prior experience, and a demonstrated commitment to rigorous training.

Time and Commitment

Joining the Orange County Cyber Innovation Clinic (OCCIC) requires a serious commitment. Members are typically expected to dedicate a minimum of 5-10 hours each week to clinic activities. This includes completing assigned tasks, preparing for customer engagements, and participating in weekly clinic meetings.

All candidates are expected to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and maturity, which are critical factors in the assessment of all clinic members.

Trainee Program

Candidates with little to no prior cybersecurity experience or without a Security+ certification will be admitted as Trainees. Through a combination of faculty-led training, peer mentoring, self-study, and assisting with customer engagements, Trainees will develop the essential skills needed to assist clients and prepare for the Security+ certification exam. Successfully passing this exam is a key component of the Trainee evaluation process.

At the end of each semester, Trainees will be assessed based on their performance and their success in passing the Security+ examination.
