Preparing for Your Visit

Weather and road conditions can change rapidly in the Mojave Desert. Be prepared before you leave!

- Plan on having no cellphone service away from the DSC; bring offline or printed maps.

- Tell people where you going and when you expect to return. Carry ample water and food, appropriate clothing and safety gear, and essential tools (the nearest drug and full-service grocery stores are in Barstow, 55 mi S).

- Keep a full gas tank. The nearest gas stations off I-15 are in Baker (12 mi N) and at the Rasor Road Exit (11 mi S).

- If driving in the Mojave National Preserve, be sure that your vehicle has an inflated spare tire and that someone in your party knows how to change a tire.
