Three Cal State Fullerton students received the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute’s Aging Science Minor Scholarship. Ben Le, a senior in computer engineering, was recognized for his academic success and for conducting aging research that uses IoT devices and brain signal analysis in collaboration with the Electrical and Computer Engineering department.

Computer Engineering Student Uses Technology to Study Stress in Older Adults

Generative AI-Assisted Project Prepares Students for Careers in Chip Design

Cal State Fullerton launched a generative AI–assisted chip design program with a $150,000 state grant to prepare students for semiconductor careers. Starting in June, 30 electrical and computer engineering students will take part in immersive summer research followed by a yearlong project track. Led by graduate student Akshat Desai with faculty directors Rakesh Mahto and Kiran George, the program uses AI tools to streamline coding, troubleshooting, and design, lowering barriers to entry in chip development.
EE Professor Emeritus Honored by NAI

Cal State Fullerton’s Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering, Dr. Fleur Tehrani, has been honored by the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) during Women’s History Month for her leadership in biomedical engineering. Over her career, she has secured 13 U.S. and international patents, including innovations such as metabolic rate monitors and advanced respiratory assist devices.

$5 Million NASA Grant Launches CSUF Aerospace Research Center

Cal State Fullerton received a nearly $5 million NASA grant to establish the SpaceIgnite Center for Advanced Research Education in Combustion, which will prepare a diverse aerospace workforce. The five year initiative will provide students with new courses, research opportunities, and internships at NASA’s Glenn Research Center. The project is co directed by faculty in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering, with plans to develop an aerospace engineering track and expand STEM pathways for underrepresented students.
Faculty Member Receives Grant for AI Research & Student Engagement

Cal State Fullerton Associate Professor from the Electrical and Computer Engineering department Yu Bai and his Intelligent Computing Lab received a $150,000 gift from the Carly Wang Resource Inc. Foundation and Pac-Dent Technology Co. The funds will support AI-driven research and 3D printing in digital dentistry, equip the lab with advanced tools, and engage students in applied research to strengthen their AI skills and workforce readiness.
Students Reach for the Sky to Launch High-Altitude Balloon Platform

Cal State Fullerton students developed a high altitude balloon system called the SOLAR System to carry a capsule to about 150,000 feet for low cost microgravity experiments. The project included students from electrical, mechanical, and computer engineering, with the Electrical and Computer Engineering team leading work on the electrical architecture, communications, navigation systems, and ground support under the guidance of a computer engineering faculty member Dr. Yoonsuk Choi.
