CSUF recognizes that our students and their families may have been affected by a variety of changes since submitting the financial aid application. We want to make sure that students know what to do if their family is experiencing financial loss or significant changes to circumstances that has negatively affected their family's circumstances.

Financial Aid applications use tax information from the prior-prior tax year to determine your financial aid eligibility. If there have been recent significant changes to your (student or parent) income from what was reported on the 2025-26 FAFSA  or  CADAA application, this appeal form will help the financial aid office update your application to reflect your family’s most accurate income up to date, according to the supporting documentation submitted.

Students who already have a Student Aid Index (SAI) of -1500 on their 2025-26 FAFSA or CADAA application are already receiving the maximum of financial aid and are not eligible to submit an Income Appeal, as it will not further increase financial aid eligibility.

All appeals are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and submission of an appeal request does not guarantee approval. If you have questions or are unsure if an appeal might be right for you, please don't hesitate to reach out to the Office of Financial Aid for guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How can I prepare before meeting with a Financial Aid Counselor?

In preparation for your meeting, please review this site and prepare a typed statement explaining your circumstances, any supporting documentation relevant to your case, and the reason the appeal should be considered. The counselor may request additional documents.

If the Income Appeal does not apply to me, where can I find other financial resources?

CSUF Basic Needs Services

  • Food assistance, CalFresh application support, Temporary Housing, Basic Needs Grants

Scholarships

  • Avaiable for both continuing and incomig students
  • New applications available early January

Tuition Installment Payment Plan (TIPP)

  • Sign up for the option to break down your semester payments in 3 months

If I submitted my appeal but haven't received an update, should I pay for my tuition and fees for the semester?

You are responsible to ensure all remaining fees on your student account are paid by the payment fee deadline. An Income Appeal does not guarantee additional financial aid; therefore, you and your family are advised to plan as if you will only receive what is currently offered (without adjustments).

You may also consider splitting your payment in three by signing up for the Tuition Installment Payment Plan (TIPP). Any unpaid fees by the payment fee deadline may result in disenrollment for the semester.
