General Education Information for Students

General education at Cal State Fullerton is so much more than a list of requirements. Each course in the GE Program is designed to equip you with knowledge that will prepare you for your future, no matter your major or specialty.

Taking GE courses will teach you lifelong skills that every employer seeks: strong leadership, effective communication, problem analyzing and solving, and having a strong ability to contribute effectively within our culturally diverse society.

  • General Education at CSUF is divided into six major areas with subareas in each section. The requirements in GE areas and subareas have changed over the years, so check to see which requirements pertain to you and your catalog year.

  • These lists will assist you in choosing courses to fulfill your General Education requirements, but be sure to refer to the most recent Class Schedule for the current semester's available GE courses.

  • Catalog Rights
  • The CSU and CSUF may modify GE requirements while you're still enrolled, but don't worry! Those changes won't affect your requirements as you have catalog rights and your requirements are according to your catalog year.

  • In 2021, all campuses in the CSU system began to offer an Ethnic Studies requirement in their GE programs. View this page to see if we can Answer any of your questions regarding this new requirement.
