Child and adolescent studies majors train for careers in early care and education, elementary education, special education and various youth-related social service careers.

WHY CHOOSE CSUF Child and Adolescent Studies

Our program provides students with empirically-derived knowledge about bio-physical, socio-emotional, and cognitive developmental milestones from conception through adolescence; individual and cultural differences; and common variations in development. Graduates receive an excellent foundation for careers working with children and adolescents in various fields includingresearch, education, social work,health care, public policy and advocacy,and counseling.

Distinctions:

  • The Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) is an opportunity for students transferring from the community college to Cal State Fullerton. In two years, ITEP students earn a bachelor of science in child and adolescent development and a special education credential.
  • The child and adolescent studies department offers annual short-term study abroad/international internship programs. Students have traveled to China, Thailand, Costa Rica, New Zealand and Germany.
