President: Sofia Alfaro

PRESIDENT

Hello, my name is Sofia Alfaro and I am the President. I am a fourth-year majoring in Biology with a concentration in Cellular and Molecular Biology. I am from Santa Clarita, California and I enjoy practicing yoga, playing soccer and playing videogames.I always knew I wanted to go into healthcare but I was not quite sure which field to go into. A few years ago, I had no experience working in healthcare and was having a hard time trying to get my foot in the door. After months of looking for jobs, someone gave me an opportunity to work as an optician and my passion for optometry started there! I was intrigued by the combination of sales, technology and medicine. I was also interested in the prospect of owning my own business. I enjoy making meaningful connections with patients and hope to run my own practice one day!

Vice President: Christine Sy

VICE PRESIDENT

Hello, my name is Christine Sy, and I am the Vice President. I am a third-year majoring in Biology with a concentration in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and minoring in Business Marketing. Some of my hobbies include collecting plants, baking and photography/videography. Growing up, I had an optometrist named Dr. Gerry Gee who had the biggest heart and was able to create a lasting impact on my life.  He inspired me to pursue optometry, as I noticed that he was able to create interpersonal relationships with all patients, including myself, annually! He truly saw patients as real people and found ways to connect with every one of them during improving their quality of life through their vision. I hope to follow in his footsteps to connect with patients day-by-day, and hopefully inspire others as Dr. Gee inspired me!

Secretary: Roselle Alcantara

SECRETARY Hello, my name is Roselle Alcantra and I am the Secretary. I am a third-year majoring in Biology with a concentration in Cell Development and minoring in Asian American Studies. I am from San Dimas, California and my hobbies include singing, playing guitar and collecting vinyl records. I don’t really have a strong reason or memory that motivated me to go into optometry. I’m still feeling out the opportunities that my major will give me. However, I feel a sense of appreciation and gratefulness towards those who work to help people see the world. I feel as though one of the greatest gifts is to be able to see the beauty of the world in its fullest, whether it’d be a sunset or a simple wide smile.

Treasurer: Jaycee Smith

TREASURER & ICC REP

Hello my name is Jaycee Smith and I am the Treasurer. I am a fourth-year majoring in Biology with a concentration in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. I am from Highland, California and I enjoy baking, going on hikes and golfing. I have always been a math and science girl and I always knew I wanted to do something within one of those fields growing up. I knew I couldn’t go to medical or vet school because I don’t think I could get past all the surgeries and opening people up, seeing their insides, so I narrowed my options down to pharmacy and optometry. As I talked to friends, family, and even other medical professionals I came to think I might end up getting bored with Pharmacy and I knew I was always fascinated with my eyes so I started leaning toward Optometry. The more I researched the field the more I started to feel like this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
