Step 1: Roommate Selection (Optional)

Starting May 22nd at 1:00 PM PST, you can view suggested roommates or request specific roommates who were also assigned a Room Selection timeslot. Roommate options can be filtered based on the compatibility questions you answered in your application.

Preferred roommates are not guaranteed, and you are not required to pick roommates. To help others get to know you, complete your “About Me” Bio in the portal.

How to Request a Roommate:
  1. Log in to the Housing Portal
  2. Click "CSUF Housing Applications"
  3. Create a Roommate Group (avoid emojis in group names)
  4. On the "Roommate Requests" page:
    1. To search for a specific applicant: Select "Search for a Specific Roommate by Portal Username"
    2. To see suggestions: Select "Suggested Roommates"
      1. Note: If no results appear, try broadening your search by using fewer filters. One or two is usually best
  5. Message your potential roommate
  6. If you confirm to be roommates, click "Add to Group"
    1. Your roommate must confirm the request in their Housing Portal

You can only match with roommates who share the same category, which includes gender, living community, and theme living community if applicable. To confirm compatibility with another roommate, compare the original room selection emails you both received.

Step 2: Room Selection (Mandatory)

During your timeslot , you will have a 2-hour window to log in and select your space for the 2025-2026 year. You will choose from available bed spaces based on your gender and classification.
If you’ve formed a roommate group, one member can select for the entire group.

Room Selection Instructions

Before Your Timeslot: When your timeslot opens, you’ll be able to access the room selection page through the Housing Portal.

Important: You MUST reopen the application portal for it to update properly. Simply refreshing the page will not work.

Roommate Groups:

Once your timeslot begins, you can no longer update, request, or change your roommate group.

If you're in a roommate group, anyone in the group can complete room selection for all group members, even if not everyone’s timeslot has opened.

  1. Log in to the Housing Portal during your assigned timeslot
  2. On the "Room List" page, click "Add to Cart" for your preferred bedspace
    1. The top number with the bed icon shows the total number of beds in the room.
    2. The bottom number shows how many beds are still available.

    1. Repeat for other group members

You must complete all steps to secure your bedspace.

Apartment/Suite Selection:

Roommate groups are limited to 2 people for apartments and suites. If your group is larger than 2, you’ll need to coordinate separately to be in the same unit.
If your group is selecting an apartment, you will need to choose 2 rooms within that unit.

Important Reminders:
  • Missing Room Selection (not roommate selection) means you will not receive housing for academic year 2025–2026.
  • There are no exceptions so please make sure to plan accordingly. All applicants must pay the first housing installment by August 15 in order to receive their keys on move-in day.
  • Need to change your timeslot? Email us at least 24 hours prior to your timeslot, and include your availability.
  • You can return to the Housing Portal to update your meal plan preference up to Monday, July 7, 2025, 11:59 PM PST. After this deadline, you can only request to increase your meal plan but not decrease.
