All on-campus residents are required to move out of student housing by 8:00 PM on Friday, May 15, 2026, or within 24 hours after their final exam—whichever comes first. To ensure a smooth checkout and avoid charges for improper checkout or damages, please follow all move-out instructions carefully.

*If you are approved for a late stay due to commencment, please see additional communitcation regarding your move-out to your email from [email protected]


Following the move-out procedures is each resident’s responsibility. Failure to comply with the outlined steps will result in an improper checkout fee.

Student Move-Out Resources

During move-out week, there will be for student resources available provided by Housing!

Housing Piazza Tent

For your convenience, vacuums, moving bins, and cleaning supplies (trash bags, gloves, disinfectant wipes, mops) are available at the Piazza Tent only during opening hours. Please look below to see opening days and times .

Note: Do NOT contact the RA on Duty to request a vacuum moving bin or cleaning supplies—these requests will not be accommodated. The RA on Duty phone is for emergencies only.

Swap Shop - Pine Academic Resource Center (PARC)

Residents may bring items to the Swap Shop in the Pine Academic Resource Center (PARC). The items include clothes, electronics, small furniture, toiletries (unopened), appliances, and other usable household items. Accepted items should be new, unopened, or gently used . Residents may drop off items they no longer need or pick-up items that may be useful to them. Please look below to see opening days and times .

Donation Bins

Donation bins will be located outside each housing building (see donation bins location map below). Please do NOT donate food that is perishable or expired. Trash or mattress pads will NOT be accepted.

    • ASI dontation boxes- Non-perishable items only (canned goods, pasta and rice, peanut butter, snacks, granola bars, cereal, etc.)
    • Basic Needs donation boxes - Hygiene products
    • One World donation boxes- Clothing and shoes

Step 1: Pick-Up Mail and Update Your Active Mailing Address
  • If you have any outstanding mail and/or packages that haven't been picked up, please stop by the Amazon lockers and Holly or Redwood Mailroom, so you don't leave them behind after you move out.
  • You can edit your active mailing address through your CSUF student portal under Student Homepage > Profile.

Step 2: Empty and Clean Your Spaces
  • Before you check-out, please complete the cleaning agreement form (see cleaning agreements listed below):

  • It is the responsibility of all residents to speak with all roommates and fill out the cleaning agreement form. Every roommate needs to submit their own!
  • If you have a rented a Microfridge: Do NOT unplug it. Unplugging your microfridge can cause water damage. Please remove all contents inside and clean the inside of the unit before move-out.
  • Make sure all personal belongings are removed from both bedrooms/assigned spaces and shared spaces, all trash is disposed properly, surfaces are wiped down, and floors are reasonably clean and vacuumed.
  • All appliances must be clean and in good codition. Please ensure all appliances are emptied, wiped down, and free of food or debris. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Microwaves
    • Dishwashers
    • Ovens
    • Stovetops
    • Grarge disposals
    • Other provided appliances
  • CSUF Housing provided furniture must be present, assembled and in the original position when you moved in.
  • Our staff will inspect your space after you check out. Charges will be applied for any damages, excessive mess, or items/trash left behind.

Step 3: Discarding and Returning 
  • Any temporary card must be returned to the Holly Housing Office between Monday-Friday, between 8am-5pm.
  • Please return any dining hall utensils to the Chartwell drop-off boxes located in all residence halls, suites, and apartment lobbies.
  • Large dumpsters are available for use in R1 Lot, R2 Lot, and near the OLLI Lot turnabout (see trash bins location map below). You MUST take all trash to the dumpsters. Note: All trash chutes will be closed!

Step 4: Time to Check Out!
  • All residents MUST complete the Resident Self-Checkout Form and return any keys, at the Housing Office or one of the listed checkout location during checkout hours
  • Please take a picture of your empty spaces before you leave.
  • Remember to check one last time that all belongings are removed.
  • Apartments Residents Only: Bring your bedroom key to the Holly Mailroom Lobby and drop it off  at the white drop-off box, in front of the Mailroom service window (Key return available 24/7).
Improper Checkout Fees
  • Vacating without formally checking out is considered as an improper checkout
  • Failure to properly check out = $120 Improper Checkout Fee
  • Missing or unreturned keys = $50 per Key Fee

Important Notes

*Please do NOT attempt to repair damages yourself. Submit a maintenance request on your housing portal for assistance.

**All damage charges are estimates and therefore subject to change. An appeal process will be available for students who follow proper checkout procedures during business hours.

No charges will be implemented for normal wear and tear. Only excessive.

Parking During Move-Out

During move-out, please be mindful of all parking and transportation regulations. Fire lanes in any lot, as well as the OLLI Lot (behind Pine Residence Hall), may not be used at any time for unloading, loading, or parking. All vehicles must be parked in designated spaces—no parking in fire lanes or double parking is permitted. Residents and guests are expected to comply with all traffic laws and follow directions from Parking & Transportation staff, University Police, and other university personnel to ensure a safe and efficient move-out process. Residence Hall Lots 1 and 2 will not be ticketed on Thursday, May 14 and Friday, May 15; however, all other parking areas on campus must follow posted guidelines and enforcement will remain in effect.
