WHY CHOOSE CSUF History
Our program trains students to work with archives, digital tools, new media and other historical resources that are available for research. The department promotes global perspectives, public and oral history, transformative learning environments and community projects.
Centers
Lawrence de Graaf Center for Oral and Public History
The Lawrence de Graaf Center for Oral and Public History combines the strengths of oral history and public history to build better connections between Cal State Fullerton and local, national and global communities. Experts in the center collect and preserve the stories of distinctive individuals and diverse communities whose historical experiences have shaped the collective memory of Southern California. The center trains CSUF students in the research methods of collecting oral histories, interpreting histories, and presenting important regional, national, and global stories for the public.
Phi Alpha Theta and The Welebaethan
Cal State Fullerton’s chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national honor society in history, has received national recognition for its journal, the Welebaethan, which is published by undergraduate and graduate students in the department.
Cal State DC Scholars program
Since 2006, the Cal State DC Scholars program has given hundreds of students the opportunity to study and intern in our nation’s capital and earn academic credit. Many of our program alumni turn their experience into thriving careers.
