WHY CHOOSE CSUF Psychology

Psychology majors learn about themselves and others, gain skills in research methods and statistics, and apply these skills to real-world problems. CSUF psychology students learn to seek out and evaluate psychological research, and how diversity influences individual and social behavior, leading to ethical practices in psychological settings.

Our psychology department has a long tradition of excellent undergraduate and graduate programs. Our students have opportunities for campus involvement through student organizations, research with faculty and internships in the community.

Twin Studies Center
The Twin Studies Center was established by Nancy Segal, CSUF professor of psychology. The center promotes research experience and training for graduate students and qualified undergraduates in the psychology department; responds to requests for information about multiple births; and enhances public awareness of the unique biological and psychological aspects of twinning through publications and by participation in public events.

Decision Research Center
The Decision Research Center supports research and instructional activities of faculty and students in the study of behavioral decision-making. Research conducted in the center includes experimental and theoretical studies of basic psychological laws of judgment and decision-making under conditions of risk, uncertainty, and ambiguity.

Social Science Research Center
The Social Science Research Center provides research services to community organizations and research support to CSUF faculty. As a university-based center, the center assists in proposal preparation and in all phases of social research including the development of survey and evaluation instrumentation, research design, data collection, statistical analysis and technical report writing.

Psi Chi
Psi Chi is the national honor society for psychology students. To be admitted into Psi Chi, a student must have completed nine semester hours of psychology (or 6 semester hours and be registered for 3 more), have declared a psychology major or minor, and have a 3.2 GPA overall and a 3.5 GPA in psychology. Graduate students must have a GPA of 3.0 or better in all graduate courses including psychology.
