Entra ID Authentication

As part of our ongoing efforts to provide a more secure and seamless sign-in experience, we are implementing Microsoft Entra ID across several of our applications in phases.

This transition moves authentication from our on-premises environment to cloud-based authentication, improving the security, reliability, and overall user experience of

application logins. As part of this change, you will notice an updated sign-in screen when accessing these applications. 

Until all our applications are transitioned, in some cases, you will need your complete email address and password to log into the application instead of your userid.

Why is CSUF implementing Microsoft Entra ID?

This transition is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance security, improve reliability, and modernize the campus authentication experience. This is also easier to setup as we have a growing number of cloud-based applications.

What is changing?

The authentication method for participating applications is moving from on-premises authentication to Microsoft Entra ID. As a result, you will notice an updated sign-in screen when accessing these applications.

Will my username or password change?

No. You will continue to use your CSUF credentials to sign in.

Will I need to create a new account?

No. Your existing CSUF account will continue to be used.

Will this affect Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?

When Multi-Factor Authentication is required for your account or the application you are accessing, you will continue to complete the verification process as you do today. 

What should I do if I can't sign in after the transition?

First, try clearing your browser's cache and cookies or open the application in a private/incognito browser window. If you continue to experience issues, please contact IT Help Desk for assistance.

Will this affect my personal Microsoft account?

No. This change only affects your CSUF account and supported university applications. Your personal Microsoft account and personal data are not affected.

Is my information secure?

Yes. Microsoft Entra ID provides modern security features designed to help protect your account and university resources through advanced authentication and identity protection technologies.

Will all applications change at the same time?

No. Applications will transition in phases according to the published implementation schedule. Additional applications may be added over time.

Do I need to do anything before my application transitions?

No action is required.  If preparation is required, we will communicate well in advance. You may continue to use the application as normal. After the transition to EntraID, you will see the new Microsoft Entra ID sign-in experience.
