Guided by CSU-wide policies and campus procedures, our asset management program ensures that all university property ranging from technology equipment to state-owned assets is properly acquired, tagged, tracked, inventoried, and disposed of throughout its lifecycle. Through collaboration between departments, Information Technology, and Logistical Services & Asset Management, CSUF maintains accurate records, promotes fiscal accountability, and supports compliance with Chancellor’s Office requirements. This system not only safeguards institutional resources, but also enhances transparency and efficiency in managing the tools and equipment that support learning, research, and campus operations.

Asset Tagging

All IT-related equipment and user devices purchased either by IT or individual departments including laptops, desktops, printers, tablets, cameras, iPads, scanners, VR Headsets, and mobile phones must be tagged, inventoried, and recorded in the IT Service Now database. An IT Purchase request is required before purchasing your equipment. This inventory must be accessible by the LSAM( Logistical Services and Asset Management ) Office for audit purposes. If you need to have an asset tagged please submit one through the service now portal or click below.

Equipment Disposal 

Complete the Property Survey form and Data Destruction Form. Data Destruction form is only needed if the asset holds data. Please include asset tag number, serial number, and make & model. If there is no asset tag the serial number will suffice. A service ticket will automatically be created and someone will reach out to schedule a pick up day and time. Please keep all assets in secure location, do not leave out in public areas.

All retired IT type items will follow the LSAM office procedures are to be disposed by the Asset Management Office. Ensure the items are properly wiped/reset/unlocked (clear out any personal data). Please contact your your local techs to ensure items are properly cleared of any campus/personal data. Please only fillout the property survey for your department owned assets only. No personal assets from home. If you have IT Owned assets please return to the ATC or submit a ticket to helpdesk to request a pick up.

Non-inventoried items—such as cables, surge protectors, keyboards, mice, speakers, and webcams—may be dropped off at PLS-086 in the Library basement at any time between 8am to 5pm Monday - Friday.

Your Equipment Responsibilities

You are required to verify all equipment assigned to you. If any changes are necessary, please inform your Department IT Coordinator (DITC) or follow the instructions outlined in the Self-Assessment User Guide.

Reporting Lost or Stolen Equipment

What should you do?
  • File a police report 
  • Log on to service now self service and fill out the "Report lost stolen equipment" form.
