What is Multi-Factor Authentication?

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a security method that requires users to verify their identity using two or more factors before accessing an account.

MFA adds a second layer of security to your CSUF account. By verifying your identity using a second factor (such as your mobile device or a hardware token).

MFA prevents anyone else from logging into your account, even if they know your password.

To help keep CSUF users and data safe, the campus utilizes Duo's MFA & Microsoft Authenticator.

Why do I need a Multi-Factor Authenticator?

  • Multi-Factor Authentication makes it harder for someone to access your information. Authentication will prompt to approve before granting access.
  • If someone knows your password they still need to be approved, and you'll be notified when they attempt to log in without you knowing.
  • On top of changing your password regularly this will protect you against unauthorized access to information.

Alumni

To increase cybersecurity, all CSUF alumni will be required to use Microsoft Authenticator, a Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) solution.

This cybersecurity feature prompts students to confirm their identity before signing in to their CSUF email account. This will be done by authenticating with Microsoft Authenticatior, via your cell phone or mobile app.
