What is Microsoft Office 365?

Originally known as Microsoft Office 365, it is now called Microsoft 365. Microsoft 365 is your powerful cloud-based productivity platform that include apps like Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneDrive, as well as intelligent cloud services and advanced security. Get started with free web and mobile apps or upgrade to a premium plan for access to more apps, storage, and features.

Installation Guide for Office 365

Your computer's internet speed will determine how long the Office 365 installation will take.

  1. First, uninstall any previous version of Office on your device. New versions will be installed when Office 365 is setup.  The Office 365 provided by Campus may have different options than a standard installation.
  2. Log in to your account through the "Install Office 365" link provided on this page.
  3. On the Microsoft page you need to click on the section labeled PC & Mac.
  4. Office 365 downloads as a complete package, so there is no ability to choose which applications download. Locate the "Install and more" dropdown on the page and select "Microsoft 365 apps" to to be taken to the Office apps and devices page
  5. Click "Install Office" begin the download process.
  6. After the download completes, locate the folder where the download was saved and double click the installer. The installation process will start automatically. Office 365 will install new copies of Microsoft Office on your computer.
  7. Setup your OneDrive @ Cal State Fullerton account to ensure that you have access to your cloud storage.

Install 365 for Mobile / Tablets 

Microsoft offers Office 365 on multiple device types from largest desktop down to your pocket sized mobile phone.  The installation process is similar but there are a couple of things to remember when working on your files through a different device.

  • There are separate apps to run each Office program
  • Limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, & OneNote
  • Your tablet or phone will not count towards your limit of 5 devices to manage
  • Download applications from the App Store or Google Play Store on your device
  • Log In using your respective school affiliated account

 

OneDrive Management

Microsoft OneDrive @ Cal State Fullerton is separate from a personal OneDrive account you may already have setup. If you do not see OneDrive @ Cal State Fullerton when opening documents:

  1. Use the Log In link below to access your OneDrive account.
  2. If this is your first time using OneDrive, you will see an overview video while it activates your account.
  3. The next screen should be your OneDrive web interface to your files.
  4. You can now create files and folders on your OneDrive @ Cal State Fullerton.  This will be your home page for Office 365 from now on.

Office 365 can be installed on up to 5 unique PC or Mac devices. The tablet or mobile installations do not use up one of your 5 computer installations. You can deactivate a computer installation to use somewhere else.

What is Office 365?

Office 365 is a cloud based subscription service that allows you to access Office applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint as well as other productivity services from your desktop to the web and the devices in between.  Your subscription through CSUF also allows you the option to install a full version of Microsoft Office to your computer.  Office delivers the tools you need to get work done.

Who is eligible for Office 365?

Office 365 is available for active faculty and staff members, and currently enrolled students, excluding open enrollment students. Students must be registered for classes in order to access the software.

Will my Office 365 subscription expire?

Yes, your subscription will expire 9 months after you have graduated.  You will retain a read-only access to your Microsoft Office files. To continue using Microsoft Office products you can purchase a new subscription directly from Microsoft.

How many devices can I install the software on?

Each subscription license allows you to install Microsoft Office on up to five computers (PC/Mac). You can also run Office on 5 tablets and 5 mobile phones.

Windows System Requirements

Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, or Windows Server 2008 R2

Mac System Requirements

Office for Mac is supported on the three most recent versions of macOS. When a new version of macOS is released, the Office for Mac Operating System requirement becomes the then-current three most recent versions: the new version of macOS and the previous versions.

Mobile Device Requirements

Windows: Office Mobile applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook Mail, and Outlook Calendar) require a supported version of Windows 10 Mobile running on a supported device.
 
iOS: Office for iPad® and iPhone® requires iOS 10.0 or later. Office for iPad Pro™ requires iOS 10.0 or later Office is supported on the two most recent versions of iOS. When a new version of iOS is released, the Office Operating System requirement becomes the then-current two most recent versions: the new version of iOS and the previous version.

Android: Office for Android can be installed on tablets and phones that meet the following criteria: running any of the supported versions of Android and have an ARM-based or Intel x86 processor. Support for Kitkat & Lollipop devices will continue till June 2019

When is Internet access required?

  • To access the Office 365 online offerings such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive.
  • To install and activate all the latest releases of Office 365.
  • To manage your version of Office, you will need to be online at least once a month to benefit from automatic updates/upgrades.

Can I choose what applications to install on my desktop?

No. Office will install all features automatically for you.  You will also only be able to install the latest version available by Microsoft.  Older versions will not be available for download.
