The Center for Healthy Neighborhoods aligns so well with the mission of the College of Health and Human Development as we help advance health, development, and well-being of those visiting the Center. The Center is also a shining exemplar of the Fullerton Forward values of civic and community engagement, where Titans are inspired to strengthen the local Fullerton community through impactful and life-changing service. A special thank-you to our Resident Leaders, who are local residents working to strengthen community voice and create lasting change.

A total of 53 CSUF students provided 4,792 hours of service while gaining hands-on experience in community health, education, and program implementation. This represents an estimated $192,351 in workforce value, based on the Independent Sector’s California value of volunteer time.

Academic Success Program (ASP)

The Center's Academic Success Program provided one-on-one tutoring and mentorship to 184 K–12 students, delivering 2,192 hours of tutoring and mentoring across fall, spring, and summer sessions. Implemented by CSUF students, interns from the College of Health and Human Development supported reading and literacy, and Math Department student workers expanded services to include math support for grades 6–12.

Salud y Bienestar (emPODERar)

Salud y Bienestar (emPODERar) is a mental health and wellness initiative supported by a Providence St. Jude grant that integrated case management, psychoeducational sessions, and culturally responsive fitness programming (Zumba & Yoga). In 2024–25, 213 unduplicated residents received individualized case management and resource navigation.

Community Health Fair

The Center hosted large-scale health programming that increased access to health and wellness resources, including the 2025 Community Health Fair serving 200+ residents. The event convened 19 local organizations to provide screenings, education, and resource navigation.

Resident Leaders & Community Meetings

The Center's Resident Leaders Program provides ongoing leadership development that equips residents to identify priorities, engage public officials, and co-lead neighborhood initiatives. In 2024–25, the Center hosted 8 community meetings with 336 participants, connecting residents directly with city leadership on housing, healthcare access, and public safety issues.
