The Abrego Future Scholars Program provides financial, academic, and personal support to help first-generation students successfully transition to California State University, Fullerton. Abrego Future Scholars are recognized not only for their academic promise, but also for their resilience, leadership, and commitment to service. Throughout the program, students participate in workshops, engage in community-based activities, and have opportunities to interact with campus leadership, and supporters of the program. 

Abrego Future Scholars Program Applications are now open. Deadline to apply is May 31st, 2026.

What is the Abrego Future Scholars Program?

  • The Abrego Future Scholars Program provides financial, academic, and personal support to help first-generation students successfully transition to Cal State Fullerton.
  • The program offers a welcoming community and a personalized network of faculty, staff, and peer mentors dedicated to helping students thrive during their first years of college and beyond.
  • Abrego Future Scholars are recognized not only for their academic promise but also for their resilience, leadership, and commitment to service. Through a combination of structured programming and individualized guidance, students gain the tools to excel academically, grow personally, and make a meaningful impact on their campus and in their communities.

Abrego Future Scholars Eligibility

  1. Open to high school seniors and incoming transfer students entering CSUF as first-time students
  2. First Generation College Student*
  3. Significant record of community service
  4. Minimum 3.0 GPA
  5. Must be a California Resident

*A first-generation college student is defined as someone whose parent(s) have not earned a four-year university degree in the United States.

Benefits

The Abrego Future Scholars Program offers:

  • Access to the Center for Scholars (CFS) provides a range of academic and student support resources designed to help scholars succeed both inside and outside the classroom, including:
    • Free printing services
    • Dedicated CFS staff to help students navigate campus resources
    • Holistic advising that supports students beyond academics
    • Programs and events such as workshops, skillbuilding opportunities, and community-building experiences
    • Special Invitations to attend and support university events.
  • Receive an annual $1,500 scholarship for up to 3 years

All benefits, including the scholarship, are contingent upon meeting program expectations and maintaining active participation each year.

  • Application Opens: April 15th, 2026
  • Offers Released: Mid-Summer
